Crutchfield has started listing compatible audio products for the 6th Gen 4Runner

I have been waiting for Crutchfield research to complete, and it looks like they have just started listing compatible hardware. It currently includes dash, front door, and rear door speakers, including a vehicle specific drop in amplifier. For JBL equipped vehicles, that still leaves out the rear hatch, center dash pill, A-pillar tweeters, rear door tweeters, and the subwoofer.

I am most interested in the amplifier DSP combos.

MATCH UP 8BMW MK2

I know there will be more factory integration products supporting the 4Runner coming out in the next year or so. iDatalink Maestro is big and I have had their Amps\DSP's in two previous vehicles. The 4Runner is not currently supported.

Orella Acoustics has listed their 2025+ Toyota 4Runner with JBL Element 710 DSP Amplifier Upgrade. This is a pretty definitive upgrade path, which includes a rebranded Match DSP amplifier, PAC AMP Pro, tune for the stock JBL speakers, and all stock features retained. They may release a speaker package in the future with another tune for it. Expensive, but this is an upgrade path done correctly. Some money can saved by buying a PAC AmpPRO AP4-TY14, the Match Up amp or similar listed above, creating your own wiring harnesses, and then doing the tune yourself.

That amp says it "doesn't fit" my 4Runner. I have the hybrid though, so that may be different.

If it fits though...8 powered channels out, sub pre-out, and with a built-in DSP. Price is steep, but there's a lot going on there.

I'm sure it fits, just Crutchfield has not updated your trim yet. It is expensive, but it has the features you mentioned. I wonder if the speaker channels on the JBL are shared at all. I doubt the factory unit is a true 13.1 amp. And if they are shared, which locations would be best for component speakers.

I wonder if the speaker channels on the JBL are shared at all. I doubt the factory unit is a true 13.1 amp. And if they are shared, which locations would be best for component speakers.

It could also be non-hybrid specific. Only a few hybrids have an alternator (only ones with the Aux switches) and the electrical system cannot handle big amplifiers. All the non-hybrids have a regular old alternator setup instead of a DC/DC charging setup.

But I've done stereo stuff fairly consistently since the 80s. Nothing big or competition-like. Just adding amps/speaksers/subs/etc. Just casual, but consistent, exposure to it. DSP stuff is at the edge of my knowledge, but I ain't skeert. The kids have it figured out and installs have never been easier. There's an adapter and harness for EVERYTHING now lol

One problem the JBL system in 4runner is 14 speaker and the one in the Tacoma is 10 speaker.

Here is the install video for that one. Looks like you have to take both seats and the front carpet out. I wish he went over the DSP features and tuning. It would be worth waiting to see their 6th gen 4Runner package.

True it's expensive but amp dsp combos are already in the 1200 range and this also includes a pac amp pro which is 500-ish. Plus the wiring harnesses and pre-made dsp settings. I would like to see a version with all the speaker replacements and a custom subwoofer included, I think that would add a lot of value.

Assuming it does what it claims that's less than replacing a whole sound system and doing. A lot of wiring. It's 20+ years ago where a whole sound system upgrade was not a massive undertaking especially trying to keep it working with an existing OEM controls or hell even replacing the head unit.

I agree that it's pricey. It's worth it if it makes that big of a difference along with being plug and play.
