Purchased Carista app to use with my OBDLink MX+ module.

Adjusted the following settings:

Lane-change turn signal auto-flasher count = 5
(I change lanes cautiously, 5 flashes if better)
Engine Sound Enhancement (ESE) = OFF
(Finally can hear the natural sounds)
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) = OFF
(Appears to have eliminated the mystery rumble)

Does the noise in the cabin seem louder now with the ANC off?

Sounds different, more natural?, not sure about louder. My AT tires sound more natural without ANC. Need to drive more and have a passenger toggle ANC while maintaining the same speed, if possible.

I have not tried this. Can you have a passenger adjust the setting in real-time while driving to see it immediately? Or do you have to be stopped.

Not sure, that's why I stated, "if possible".

I'll test stopped while in D, then at crawl speed first.

Full reading comprehension is important. I read too fast and got excited when you said have a passenger try and change settings and missed the, "if possible". Let us know when you can. I can also try it in my cul-de-sac at a crawl tonight if not.

Awesome! Thanks for the input and in advance for the test.

Tested toggling ANC on & off today while driving. Carista doesn't care if you're stopped in D or driving down the road. Drove in Normal drive mode several miles at various speeds. A mix of climbs, flats, and downhills. Had my co-pilot toggle ANC on & off during a unchanging segment.

If ANC is working, it must be very subtle. Not knowing how ANC works, it may have a sample time longer then our on/off toggle periods which might null out any possible noise cancellation.

I'll test again tomorrow on a gentle rolling 15-20 mile stretch of 65 mph 4-lane.

Tested toggling ANC on & off while driving again today. This time on a gentle rolling 15-20 mile stretch of 4-lane while varying speeds between 55 and 65.

ANC is noticeably cancelling a subtle low frequency droning sound. The change is noticeable within 1-2 seconds of tapping the Carista SAVE button. Perhaps exhaust noise, just a guess.

That low drone may be what some of us have occasionally heard that resembles rear diff noise. As some suspect, ANC may glitch and pass the noise at times. 🤷‍♂️

For now, I'm leaving ANC off. When we take a long trip, if the drone is annoying, I'll switch it back on.

Interesting theory on ANC being the source of the rear diff noise. Never thought of that being possible cause, but makes sense.

Yes. As they taught me in driving school a long time ago - hope it still applies:

One turns the flasher on mainly to signalize INTENT to change lanes/direction, not the fact that you are already doing it. So it is most important to turn the flasher early enough before the lane change starts. Letting it flash after you have changed the lane is not good - it may be interpreted as you intending to change one more lane.

So 5 flashes for me too. 3 before I start moving over, 2 for the process.

Awesome! Thanks again for the trials! I definitely want to turn the piped noise in, but will probably keep the ANC on. Not sure about purchasing Carista just for that... Maybe if I slip a $5 to my local Toyota dealer, they will hook me up. Thanks again!

I used the same device. I had an OBDlink MX+ I used to monitor CVT temps while towing with my Outback Wilderness. Never thought I’d have a use for it after the OBW was totaled. First thing I did was change speaker volume from 4 to 12. I also disabled ANC and ESE. Changed the turn signal to 5 blinks and disabled all the seat belt dingers.
