What's the weight of the RV trailer you tow?

We are interested in towing an Intech Sol Eclipse RV trailer with a 2025 4Runner Offroad Premium. (Non-Hybrid) The esimated trailer weight with gear, and water/propane full will be about 4,300 pounds. The tongue weight is 540 pounds. We want to know if members tow a similar size trailer, and your experience with the 6th Gen 4Runner? Especially on mountain passes and under windy conditons. We would use a weight distribution hitch and trailer brake controler. Thank you,

I wouldn’t pull anything that is over 4,800lbs. What you’re pulling is definitely fine.

I pull 4,000 pounds. Tongue weight is right on at 400#. Boat, motor, trailer on flat with no issues. RVs pose other issues. Height being one of them. My buddy tows a travel trailer with a 5th gen within spec and it’s a chore. Height causing drag while towing and passing semis made him almost crash one time. Sway control and slower speed is your friend.

I made the mistake of finding out about those Mammoth trailers and now the wife and I want to sell the house and just live on the road.

I tow a Sol Horizon with my 2025 Off Road Hybrid. Got the 6G specifically for towing the camper because as much as I loved it, my 5G Off Road was a wheezer when it came to towing. The weight of the Horizon is very close to your Eclipse and my 2025 tows it effortlessly. I know I have the hybrid, but I joke that my 6G can accelerate with the camper better than the 5G did empty. I've seen non-hybrids towing campers right at 5,000 pounds. Even the non-hybrid torque curve destroys a 5G 6 cylinder. You'll be fine. 5G owners who scoff at the 4 cylinder engine have no idea how to read a torque curve. Not to mention the 8 speed transmission versus the old 5 speed. Again, not even close when it comes to towing.

As far as stability, I also use a weight distribution hitch. The 6G handles head wind just fine, but your mileage will drop below 10 mpg. The 5G did handle side winds better for some reason. My 6G tramlines highway grooves more and is not as rock steady with side winds. It could be my non-OEM tires or the stiff 6G suspension (that's a whole 'nother discussion).

Hello, and thank you for your insightful reply. It's really nice to hear the experience from someone who is also towing an Intech Sol trailer. I liked your vote of confidence in the non-hybrid, too.

I tow an Airstream Basecamp 20X, which is around the same weight and hitch weight as the Sol Eclipse. My 2025 Non-hybrid SR5 pulls up steep hills, and can even accelerates up them, with ease. Very stable too, as long as you have a weight distribution hitch. White knuckle experience without it! I get between 13.5-14.5 mpg as long as I keep to the speed limit.
