I've read that the jump start posts are not rated for the kind of current that a winch would pull.

Edit: If we assume a 15 foot run between the winch and the battery (30 feet total), the wires should be 2/0 or 4/0 AWG to sustain 400A.

I'm not sure what the battery-to-frame connection looks like, but you may be able to run the ground through the frame instead of running the whole 15 feet of 2/0 AWG wire for the ground. A steel frame should be roughly equivalent to a wire twice the size of 4/0 AWG; but the limiting factor is the connections and risk of corrosion creating resistance (heat) at the joints.

Can they not just run cables to the jump area in the engine bay? I heard you can install a switch hookup to that instead of having to run all the way back to battery.

I'd have to check with Warn's R&D, but my understanding is that they go all the way back to the battery for the winch draw protection... I'll get back to you once I get confirmation.
