Thoughts on using this engine cover (https://www.victory4x4.com/product/V4RGNC-24.html) with possible sound deadening material on the underside to cut down on engine noise? Anyone think there may be issues with heat retention? I’ve been looking at any way to reduce the cricket/cicada noise when accelerating and was wondering if this might help.

While it is tempting to cover that god awful mess. Toyota opted to force us to look at it for some reason. Logic tells me that any cover would trap heat and be detrimental. I believe the majority of the noise you are hearing is through the firewall. Specifically at the grommet where the steering shaft passes through. I covered it with acoustic foam. Several layers

I actually like it so I placed an order for it. Just my thought. It’s going to cover up the mess

You can buy sound deadening for the underside of the hood... another SR5 owner posted about it months ago. TRD's come with it already. I would not add that "cover".

I agree there’s probably a ton of noise from there and I plan on doing the same thing. Only catch is that I hear the noise the worst with the windows down (just moved to Hawaii and I like driving with the windows down except for this super annoying cricket noise). So I don’t think it’s necessarily coming from there.

Too bad it's not a lightweight plastic. I think plastic would dissipate heat quicker than aluminum and probably be a lot less expensive and lighter. Personally I think aluminum is an Overkill for an engine cover. Just my two cents
