Does anyone else find these two trip information screens to be absolutely useless? These bar graphs are so stupid (I don't even understand the one with lots of little bars). Also, why isn't there instantaneous mpg? Or why not include Trip A and Trip B info here (I know you can get those gauges on the dash). Anyway, just wanted to get folks opinions...

Concur - useless. (I suppose the "Fuel consumption in the past 15 minutes" chart is vaguely interesting but not enough to bother navigating to the page very often)

I just started tracking the details off-line to really understand fuel economy status.
Would like to get a data dump of each trip that shows up on MID when powering off (distance-time-mpg) but not sure how to extract that or if its even recorded. The history chart does not seem to actually line up with each trip - perhaps an average of trips for a day?? Now that I write that I will have to check again - I abandoned these trip info screens when I could not figure out if they had any value but now will look again... (but without ability to download data, can't imagine much utility)

It's all useless to me, because I turned off the connected services :) but before I did that, I agree, it was confusing and didn't seem coordinated with the dash information.

Why not use the instant gas mileage and trip information on your instrument cluster, that's what it's for. The one on the big screen is to show your averages. All of this is explained in the owners manual.

Thanks John. Real helpful. I already acknowledged the trip info is on the instrument cluster.

How are they stupid or useless? The first graph pictured shows you your average MPG per minute over the last 15 minutes. The second graph pictured shows your average MPG since the last time you updated the chart.

If you don't want to use them, then just don't use them. The only thing useless here is the original post.

Pretty snarky for a guy who can't figure out how to read a basic bar graph...
I guess snarky gets snarky. But I suppose I did get what I asked for. Thanks for everyone's opinions. I'll go hide under a box now. You all did your job (albeit not very nicely). For what it's worth, I had no idea that the little 15 bars across the x-axis were trips (to show the last 15 trips is so arbitrary). One of my points I was trying to make was I simply would have preferred to have the option to have all of the trip A, trip B, gas mileage stuff to be on those screens rather than on my dash... After all, the screen is titled "Trip Information".

Alright...going to look for a very large box.

At the risk of generating further snark, I'm going to attempt to explain what I think the (very limited) value of those two screens is. And I for one am glad jren asked the question because it motivated me to go back and see if there were any real value.
The first (current) chart is not the last 15 trips - its the last 15 minutes of the current trip. Like I said in my earlier post: vaguely interesting. I've not left that screen up while driving but I might try it just to see if it teaches me anything.
The second (history) chart is a record of the results from each time you reset the "fuel economy" screen (regardless of whether you reset it from the mid display by holding in the OK button or by hitting the "update" button on the infotainment "history" display.) BTW - it is a misnomer for this to be under a screen heading called "trip information". It does not track "trips" like those displayed after every time you turn off the car. It is only a record of the average fuel economy from each time you reset the fuel economy. I suppose someone might find this useful if they systematically reset the fuel economy - like after every fillup.
I learned these details only because of curiosity based on jren's question. So: Thanks jren.
AND if I've said anything incorrect - I'd appreciate being corrected. Be as snarky as you like. I just want to know.
Thanks

PS: oddly, the details of these two screens are addressed in the owner's manual (page 109 for Hybrid) vice the multimedia manual.

I'm with you. Pretty useless.

Also related...I calculate my mileage with every tank, so I reset my trip meter in my Tundra at every fillup. Takes a single push of a single button.

How many steps are there in resetting a trip meter in the 4Runner? A WHOLE LOT MORE.

I'd like to high five the UI designer in the face, with a brick, for that.

I think we can all agree that the user experience is pretty terrible if you need a manual just to figure out what's on the screen. I expected a lot more from Toyota's infotainment system. It feels really basic and poorly thought out, especially since even 30-year-old economy cars had this stuff sorted out way better.
