Anyone notice a significant and annoying drone from the TRD Pro performance exhaust? I've had mine for just over a week now and it can be pretty loud in the cabin. It's also pretty annoying when it changes from electric back to ICE. May look into having a local exhaust company make some improvements (and route the exhaust out the side as well).

Are you aware that engine exhaust sounds are routed into the interior? Not sure why Toyota would decide to do that but that is a thing. And yes it is annoying - especially at highway speeds when you let off the accelerator.

I asked my dealer to turn it off when I picked up my Pro. They couldn’t figure out how.

Apparently the Carista app does allow you to shut it off. So it may be as simple as that for you. No need to rework your exhaust pipes/tip.

The Carista app will remove the fake sound and quiet down your cabin.

I did turn off the engine noise via Carista, but that is a very good point that I left out. It makes a difference on acceleration but not so much with the droning.

Gotcha. You can try to swap exhausts with someone near you that would like the TRD exhaust (Magnaflow I believe) for a regular one...

I've had that Experience with the TRD Exhaust on two older 4Runners with the 4.0 V6. What worked for me was to install a resonator in front of the TRD muffler. The Vibrant Ultra Quiet did the trick removing all drone and took the overall tone down a bit.

They come in several OD. I used the three-inch mounting in front of the muffler

toyota trd exhaust can be drony on sound, each person is different on how they hear it. on our 2016 tacoma, i had one installed after the fact and after a few months, it just got annoying (the wife and me both hated it in the end)

not much we could do, but after we traded in the 2016 tacoma for a 2018 tundra, we were never going that route again.

I have been reading about resonators, drone tubes and J-Pipes being fitted to your factory exhaust system to eliminate the drone sound. I am not looking to replace the factory exhaust with an aftermarket cat back system but rather lean towards modifying the current one.
I need to find a competent muffler shop that has experience with combating drone with precise calculations vs welding on a tube and hoping for the best. I am considering asking a shop to cut the factory short capped pipe at the rear of the muffler, add a 20“ to 30” stainless steele J pipe that turns and flows back towards the front of the vehicle and runs parallel to the muffler Inside of the frame rail. I would have them weld on the cap that was previously cut from the factory short pipe.
This could prove to be an economical modification that would keep the factory exhaust intact. Of course I would consult the installer for his expert opinion prior to any changes to be made.
I think I may pick up a 2” diameter flexible insulation tube from the hardware store so I can hold it up and bend it on the shape, direction and position I am thinking as a visual example.
Any thoughts about adding such a pipe and your thoughts about a better idea or spot to add a J pipe or drone tube? I am not sure adding a resonator will correct the drone? I know the other models have that muffler/ resonator at the rear past the rear axle. Is this Toyota‘s answer to eliminating drone from the exhaust?
