TRD Pro 6th Gen - First Snow Driving Impressions

We had a bit of squall over the holiday, and I turned off most of the PDA functions to see how it handled in “analog” mode. It handled well after I got used to how much pedal to give it. I would not feel comfortable with those features turned on in bad weather. Even cc is something I seldom use as there is no accounting for where black ice may appear. Ymmv.

Mine is 4H right now. I have been able to use it a lot over the last week. Its snowing today and more this weekend. Damn city keeps the main roads scraped fast but all the side streets have been pure white for days. It does well. I have the simple part-time system and am happy with it. Nothing deep yet but it tracks predictable and the Falken AT4's are doing a fine job in the hard pack and slop.

All good up here in Canada. Happy with my Yokohama Iceguard tires, they handle well on icy roads and are very quiet. The sad part is that winter has arrived (temperature today is zéro degrees (-17C)) and truck won’t get washed until March or April. Truck heating is fast and I appreciate the heated seats and heated steering wheel.

I was pleasantly surprised by the cabin heater. The ac is so so, but the heater works great. We had single digit temps. Heated seats would be nice, but you can't miss what you never had.

The heated seats and steering wheel work great on ours. Probably the best of any vehicle we have owned. The cabin heat is A+ as well.

On my previous car (Highlander) the wipers would freeze up in place when there was freezing rain overnight. Took forever for the defroster to heat up the windshield the next morning and free the wipers. Noticed that on my 4Runner the is a heating element in the windshield where the wipers rest. Did not get a chance yet to use it. Will update my posting when I actually try it out.

and for those that get those really cold temps, no matter if you put the fan on highest setting, the hvac system will not ramp the fan up until the engine gets to at least 1/4 scale (1st bar) on the water temp. afterwards the fan will spin up to the highest fan speed.

Looks like the windshield wiper blade de-icer is connected with the rear window/outside defoggers switch (owner’s manual page 457)

On some Toyota models there is a dedicated switch to only activate the windshield wiper de-icer.
