Hello,
I just purchased my TH a few weeks back and have noticed a bothersome wheel vibration at 65+ mph. Is this expected due to the 33 inch tires, or should I take it into the dealer to pay to have them rebalanced? Or, should I just get new tires?

Other than this issue, I am loving it much more so than my previous 2024 4Runner...

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Why pay? If it's been doing tha since new, is that not a warranty issue?

So many people let dealers and manufacturers off the hook for poor quality.

I spoke to the local dealer - which I didn't purchase the vehicle from - and they said the tires are not covered by Toyota but by Toyo. They said they would charge me a diagnostics fee, and I expressed my displeasure over their service. What good is a warranty if you have to pay a diagnostics fee to bring it in. I think they're just upset I didn't buy their over priced vehicle.

So I took it into the dealer. They had 3 techs drive it and attributed the vibration to the Old Man EMU suspension. That is bs, if you ask me. Worst of all, the windshield got a big chip in it during the test drive. Only 500 miles on it and having to replace the windshield. I guess crap happens, but geez. Now, no resolution and am awaiting a free replacement of the windshield. Oh well...

I have a vibration on the seat/floor that started after we rotated the tires on my trailhunter. We rotated them at about 6000 miles and that’s when it started. I now have 12800 miles on it and rotated them a second time in a X pattern and the vibration was still there but less noticeable. I’ve had the balance checked (not road force balanced though) and the alignment checked with a little adjustment since there was slight feathering on the front tires. Neither of these have fixed the issue and I haven’t taken it to Toyota yet. Completely stock.

@Stormie_SS - do you think it is the OEM Toyo tires, or the suspension? I am guessing you dont really know either? My vibration is minor, but is definitely there. I am meeting with the service manager on Tuesday to take him for a ride, but I dont think it will amount to anything.
I guess it is time to open up a complaint on the NHTSA website. How disappointing this is to spend a small fortune on a vehicle, only to have issues with highway speeds. It is going to be a pain driving this cross country.

@THNC6G I'm not sure. It did not do it until after we rotated the tires the first time. I drove it across country 2 days after buying it, so I had a lot of seat time at 70-80mph. I'm thinking tires
but really don't know. I've tried to hold off on getting new ones, but I might just suck it up and replace them now to see if it changes anything.

@THNC6G Sorry to hear about your issue. It seems to be an issue with the Toyo tires. You can have the dealership try Road Balancing the tires and see if that helps. My local dealership (that i didnt buy the car from!) did the check and and swapped out two tires under warranty. I think they were helpful because I had reported the issue to Toyota Corporate and got a case number.......Toyota then called the Customer Service Manager at my local dealership and told them to help.

Here's my thread with the same issue on my Pro:

I've started a larger thread for people to report vibration issues. We're seeing it on varying trims along with varying tires installed (and already multiple attempts to fix). Evidence is mounting there may be something a bit more going on here...

https://www.4runner6g.com/forum/thr...r-having-issues-diagnosing-blaming-tires.6517

If you have a vibration, please go in there and discuss what was done to eliminate it if you've found it.

ISSUE RESOLVED - for me anyhow.
I just came back from Discount Tire where I replaced the oem tires with Toyo OpenCountry AT3 (sl load) and got it up to 75 mph and had no vibration whatsoever. My issue is resolved and case closed...

I switched out the SL load tires for LT to get the thicker sidewalls. Got it up to over 80 mph and it was smooth sailing. Discount Tire does a great job in balancing the tires...

Zoom out pls
I think you went about it the wrong way. Why did you diagnose it as a tire problem?
Just go into a new dealer and tell them its broken pls fix. They love how you already offloaded the issue from them to someone else.

Most of the time they treat you like you dont know anything anyways.
"Me feel vibrate, pls fix broken car"
Have them prove its tires at least

Hmm, what makes you think I didn't take it to the dealer?! They replaced 2 tires, marginal improvement. They cracked my windshield during test drive but they replaced it, foc of course. Toyota said that vibration was normal and wouldn't do anything more and to contact Toyo as they warranty the tires , not Toyota. I called Toyo and they paid the majority of the cost to get new tires, which fixed my problem. I paid very little for the new tires, now I have retail spec, not the oem spec tires that has minimal tread and I have lifetime rotation and balancing. My headache is gone. If someone wants to continue to waste their time taking it back to the dealer, you will need a dealer who will cooperate, which all wont.
I am very pleased with the results and that is all I care about. Am I worried about spending a couple of hundred dollars - not at all - to get LT tires. Sorry if you dont like my approach...
