Hi, we have 2026 TRD Sport with the Tow Tech Package, towing Airstream Caravel 16rb. Has anyone used the Trailer Back up Assist? If so, any tips or advice would be appreciated.

I’ve got a 2026 ORP but haven’t used the back up assist yet due to the boat being stuck in snow until recently. Hoping to try it out in the next couple of weeks.

I don’t know if it works well or not, but my recommendation is to learn to back up a trailer using your side mirrors if you donā€˜t already know how to. It’s a big game changer. I back up my trailer 400 feet in a curved road now. I wouldn’t have been able to do that 20 years ago. I get better every year.

Technology is nice, but if you drive something without or it breaks down, you’re in a pickle unless you can do it old school.

When my 4R arrives, if it has the back up assist, I will still try it though.

Great video! Thanks for posting it up. I'm going to try this with my 6G TRD Sport and a similar Airstream later today.

Thanks for that link on the Back up Assist. Towed our 4,300 lb Airstream up into the California mountains and back. Back up assist is very useful, but you still need to watch the back of your trailer. I was quite impressed with Tow/Haul mode and how the transmission and brakes work together to anticipate and control downhill speed. Although, I ran into someone towing similar with a 5G TRD Tacoma, and he prefers to let the brakes do most of the work. He said," Brakes are cheaper to replace than the transmission." Food for thought.

unless you get brake fade and then you are scrambling to get that transmission into play.

best to use both

coming down a 7% grade with a 6x12 uhaul trailer loaded in a 5th gen was fun /s

i-75 just north of atlanta mountains going to tenn border (for those that remember that interstate road thru the mountains, think its red top if i remember correctly)
