Here is my install video from a week ago of the @SXTH Element resonator delete for the 6th-gen 4Runner. The install is pretty easy with the right tools. Cold start sounds great, and after a minute it gets quiet so your neighbors don't notice. After driving for a few weeks, I have come to like the subtle difference it makes while driving around town and from a standstill. It is nothing compared to a muffler delete, as I have on our GTI with the resonator still left on; PLEASE SOMEONE DO A MUFFLER DELETE. Muffler deletes are louder and still aren't annoying, so if you want noise, cut the muffler out and put a pipe in its place. I would also leave the rear resonator, and if you want it louder, remove it.

And…. Manufacturers spend millions trying the quieten the running noise of a vehicle.

I guess the older some would say wiser you notice these things.

Now, if we are talking about a Ferrari, Porsche GT or RS and a McLaren, I might understand wanting and desiring mor “look at me” engine noise. For an Toyota SUV, not quite the same.

Good luck to you.

I have had many V8s, and nothing beats that engine sound with or without a tuned exhaust. When it comes to other vehicles, it's a matter of personal choice. Some of us like a unique change and love doing modifications to our vehicles.

If anyone has sound clips of this with an aftermarket Downpipe, I’d love to hear it!

Couldn't you just twist into Sport mode and get the same effect inside the cabin and then be the same on the outside? You get all the benefit of a fun sound plus a little more pep....and your neighbors are cool with it too. Plus you have the added capability of making it quieter in the cabin for times when you don't want to hear it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hey, for everyone in this thread saying "your neighbors will hate you," removing the resonator (not the muffler) makes the truck 10% louder at most. You would not notice unless you had two 4Runners next to each other. The sixth element is mainly for off-road clearance. Yall would have an animism at a MagnaFlow exhaust

I think it's more about these 4 bangers just sounding embarressing with any type of exhaust mods.

I think it sounds alright, especially with the sixth element intake. Nothing beats a V8, but that's what the GX460 is for.

Alright dosen't sound like a compliment though. 16 year old me probably would have both an intake and an exhaust on the 4runner though.

I like the engine and turbo noises, to each their own I suppose

I also have this mod — the sound difference is minimal and the clearance gained is the real benefit. My neighbors are def more annoyed with my squealing brakes (which came from the factory!) than they are with a few extra db on a cold start.
