should be able to resolve this for those that get the digital key on your phone, but i dont imagine too many are willing to pay the extra cost for just this feature.

and if i remember correctly, not all trims allow this feature.
NODAK, please elaborate. I am not sure what you mean about the app? Can you prevent the risk of FOB cloning with use of the Toyota app?

I'm sorry to hear (and see) that man. Hope they catch them, but even if they don't I'm sure the local PD will let them go. Nothing I despise more than theives of any sort.

Cameras are worthless...immobilizers definitely deter until they come up with workarounds there. The reality is, until local governments in many cities around the world start truly enforcing already existing laws, theft will keep happening. Put them in prison for 20 years for a simple theft to make a few examples out of them and watch how quickly it stops. Then folks won't have to constantly spend money to try to protect their stuff. I truly hate these f*ckin people.
People get locked up for robbing banks, but others still rob banks.

Theft and crime is something we just have to deal with. The government cannot make crime go away all together.

There will always be new criminals to pick up where the others left off when they got locked up.

But, I do share in your frustration.

Depends on what you prefer, there is no best.

This is one solution you can implement today, and thats what matters.
There may be better ones but that would be long term, in the meantime do this.

Wait, I just saw this thread. Is this the best option?

that sucks, I thought they’d fixed that by now. I’ll definitely be doing this when on road trips (lucky enough to have garage at home).

So sorry about this. I would recommend a Faraday box to store your keys when you aren't using them. It blocks the signals in and out of the box. It prevents those scumbags from relaying your signal to their device.
We use a faraday box for all our key fobs.

Thank you.
Yes we bought a tracking device that it was bought through the dealership, we called them right after we found out that the car was stolen, very rude customer service, no helpful.
sorry to hear, just saw your post recently that you got it.

what tracking system did you use? Do you have your keys in a Farady bag?

if you are using the digital key, you need to have the app on your phone and then you must have bluetooth turned on.

if you want to thwart cloning, you turn off bluetooth. simple as that.

but you must have the remote connect subscription and the digital key option (PIO that costs $275) when you buy your vehicle as its a hardware restriction. right now i dont know of a way you can add the digital key feature after the fact.

most car's that are stolen are using the fact that most fobs send out a constant signal so when you get close to your vehicle it knows to unlock when you grab the handle. hence the videos you see people carrying a antennae array to pick up a fob signal to clone.

one way to thwart this is to have a hidden start interlock regardless if they clone the key.

another option is to put your key fob in a faraday cage when at home

there are some canbus interlocks that require you to input a pin to start the vehicle (but this will defeat remote start for cold climate areas)

to solve the cloning issue while you sleep, you can turn off your fob from sending this signal as stating in a post above.

Thanks everyone for your words.
The truck was found by the police 45 minutes away from home, unfortunately the electronics were pulled out, window broken, I’m busy dealing with insurance and police, also because the car is not working at all, one window is broken and the other 3 are down the car got all wet inside because it was raining in the morning, it’s so upsetting, insurance just tells us no to worry that is going to get fix, I just want my new truck like it was, I had only put 91 kilometres.

Thanks NODAK, I knew you would bring the details, you always do.

I think I am going to simply disable my FOB when I get home everyday.

a faraday cage or bag would be more convient, the process of turning off the fob will get tiresome really quick

the turning off the fob is mostly for a long term solution for like when you go on vacation or something else for long term.

its not really meant to be done on a daily basis since you need to initiate the process when you leave your vehicle and when you return to the vehicle to turn the fob back on.

the instructions are in the manual
