Side Mirrors

Just purchased a 5'x8' utility trailer. Unfortunately I can't see the sides when backing it into tight spaces. My 4Runner does not have the Trailer Assist although I don't know if it would matter. Suggestions on what can be done to give a better view.

Trailer assist is the bomb ! drives itself, doesn't fail

Not sure mirror extensions would work on such a short trailer. Maybe boat trailer guides could help. I use my gate as a reference when backing up thru back window, but when gate is off trailer it is very tough to see it thru back window. I honestly have not put my 5 X 8 behind my gen 6, only gens 4 and 5 have towed it.

Similar to the boat trailer guides suggested by MTN Dew, I bought some cheap fiberglass rods at the hardware store. I use them to mark my garden hose reel (that is mounted on a post) so I don’t back into it when leaving my driveway. I would put one on each side of your trailer. Mine are bright yellow so they are easy to see.

Not sure if this will help. There is a thread I posted about Aspire Automotive wide view replacement mirrors on this site. I recently added them to my 2025 ORP. They are plug and play for most trims and come in different versions depending on the features on your existing mirrors. They are easy to install and provide much better visibility. If I knew how to add a link to the thread here I would but I'm not real tech savvy. If interested I can share more info just let me know. I'm very happy with them so far.

This might help: I put a wireless license plate back-up camera on a very old Airstream. It comes with a small, HD monitor that I attached to the passenger side grab bar using a bulletpointmountingsolutions.com mount that's made specifically for the shape of that bar. When I'm not towing, I remove the monitor and the mount is insignificant. Despite the all metal trailer and the low mount, the pictures look great although very wide angle. You should be able to power the camera using the taillight or license light wiring. Helps a lot for seeing what you're backing towards.
