the stock running boards are fine for normal use. I know when I was snowboarding and had to get on roof with snow covered shoes the stock running boards were slick as hell. That’s the main reason I’m looking to replace them.

Did you change from predator steps, what did you decide on? Mine need to come off and I can't decide to what!I’m running OEM predator steps mainly bc I didn’t wanna drop the money on aftermarket ones yet bc not many options.But they’ll be getting changed shortly.

Hey Melissa. I love my OEM cast aluminum running boards, mainly for their looks. I love the TRD letters in the middle. It just goes with the TRD trims. I feel like it goes perfectly with both Underground and Black 4Runners as well. It takes a little time to get used to them. Getting out sometimes you can scrape the back of your calves if you're not careful. You get used to them after a few weeks.
I don't think they help too much with rock chips. Maybe a little, but not enough to make a significant difference in my opinion. I think they look awesome and are the best looking option of those looking for running boards and not true rock rails/sliders.

Agreed they seem to look really good on yours so they should look okay on black too
I don't think anything will help much with rock chips. Black is just a pain all the way around! If I could find a set of rock sliders I loved and they did help more with a flare out, I would do that. I just don't see any I like as much as the TRD ones you are running!

I got mine last year on a Black Friday sale Toyota was having. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it was like 25% off. I paid somewhere in the low 800's. I know that's still expensive, but it will save you some pennies if you are willing to wait until the Black Friday deals start coming out in early November.Agreed they seem to look really good on yours so they should look okay on black too

I'm a big fan of my stock ORP running boards for this reason as well. I was initially planning on taking them off asap when I got the 4Runner, but after a year of driving on forest roads almost daily I only have one small scratch from a rock that arced around the boards and hit the side. That alone is worth it for me.
Also, they're very handy for washing and drying the top of the 4Runner without having to open the doors during the process. I personally do not find them slippery at all, even in the snow up in the mountains.
I love the look of the TRD cast running boards, but if they don't block rock chips as good as the stock ones I'm sadly going to pass on them.
