Hey guys,
Last week I did a speaker upgrade on my 2025 SR5 with the base audio system. I followed the guide written by @deuceduzit which is pinned in this subforum. He did an awesome job documenting the brackets and adapters needed to swap out the factory speakers, link to his post HERE.
Adapter parts used:
1x Metra 82-8146 Front 6x9 speaker adapters
1x Metra 82-8148 Rear 6.5" speaker adapters
6x Metra 72-8109 wiring harness
Speakers used:
1x Rockford Fosgate Prime 6x9 p# R169X3
1x Rockford Fosgate Prime 6.5" p# R165X3
1x Rockford Fosgate Punch 3.5" p# P132
The install is pretty straight forward and only requires some modification to the Metra 82-8146. Deuceduzit mentioned in his writeup that only 3 of the 4 mounting bolts to the door are used. I was able to use a die grinder to slot and make all 4 mounting bolts usable. Aside from this, all parts are basically plug and play.
I originally ordered some tweeters to install in the dash but found that the speakers appear to be pretty darn close to a 3.5" speaker. I instead ordered the Rockford Fosgate Punch P132 3.5" speakers and it was a direct bolt in with no brackets needed for mounting. I did have to trim holes in the plastic dash grille that covers the speaker to clear the integrated tweeter but this was quickly and easily done with some nippers / wire cutters.
The factory non-JBL system significantly lacks in clarity and this was what I was most interested in improving. These new speakers are significantly better - lows, mids, and highs are all much more clear and give a far better sound-picture. I did not need an amp but may add a Beatsonic down the road with the integrated subwoofer output if I decide to add a sub in the future.
When I did this project I also added some sound deadening mat to reduce in-cabin drone. This also made a big difference. I do a lot of highway driving for the tradeshows we attend and the reduction in drone / resonance should help reduce driver fatigue.
We shot a video doing the install and it should be on our youtube channel in the next week or two!
