Any updates?

Christmas is around the corner and I was leaning toward this Alpine speaker swap for myself but I may be rethinking that now...

I can't comment on that meaningfully. It's louder but I don't know if it's better.

One thing I don't like is the dash speakers dominate more than I'd like, and are a bit harsher than Icd like. There's no way to adjust those seperately from the rest. So the only way to adjust the balance between those and the rest is to select the right ohms and watts vs the rest. Ie if you feed the same signal to both a 40w speaker and a 80w speaker, the 40w will be louder.

I also installed the smaller beatsonic amp at the same time (the one with no sub) I didn't change the gain setting on the amp. They are at the factory 50%. One of beatsonics videos about the amp does say that is probably the sweet spot for most people, not just an arbitrary default. But I didn't do any testing and tuning to find a perfect setting.

All in all, I thought the stock system actually sounded ok. So far I don't find the new system more pleasing to listen to.

But: I didn't do any tuning at all yet. I haven't even fiddled with high/mid/low in the head unit, and haven't tried to find the best gain setting on the amp. The factory default might be aimed at the stock speakers and maybe could benefit from some adjustment for the alpines.

It IS louder, and there does seem to be more and better sounding bass available, if other things are adjusted better. Even though the little dasg speakers are dominating, I can still tell that the door speakers are ready to give more and better than before.

The stock system was more balanced and nicer sounding, but not strong. I am not a bass hound like thumping house etc, but I like the low end to be available when called for without distorting. It's just a part of the fullness that needs to be there for the whole to be whole. So I think the new system might be able to be made to sound good, since I think the raw material is there, even if so far I don't like it very much after just plugging it in and nothing else yet.

So I intentionally didn't want to make any statements about the sound quality since I didn't take any careful "before" samples, and haven't tried to adjust the few little things we even can adjust.

Does the alpine 8in door speakers give more lower bass tones? I feel the factory door speakers dont really give the lower bass tones and more of a mid bass around 80hz. Im not sure if its tuned like that from the head unit or if its limited due to factory crap speakers. The factory sub in rear is useless and most bass is coming from front door speakers but I feel there might be a filter on the front door speakers that filter out 70hz and the lower frequencies. Thinking if a DSP would be a better option to tune the system to get more low end vs changing the speakers to the alpine kit. Your option would be appreciated. As I wouldn't want to change the speakers only to be disappointed. It was a major disappointment as is that the rear factory sub is hardly audible.

Alpine as a brand aren't really much better than the stock speakers are. Jbl and Alpine are considered entry-level base model speakers.

People are jumping on the Beat Sonic and this Alpine bundle, but I would never upgrade a stereo in a car without a DSP, just see the complaints about how unbalanced the audio sounds after the upgrade, or harsher treble. Some people don't even notice a difference in quality, isn't that sad after spending so much money? These speakers are 4 Ohm and have different sensitivity levels than the OEM speakers, you need a DSP and amp to power and tune them properly. Also the stock door insulation is laughable, I can hear plenty of rattles at regular listening volume on the stock speakers.

So, I went for a sound deadening approach first, rattles in the doors are completely gone and it has transformed the mid bass completely. Stock JBL sounds great now, even though they are inferior paper cone woofers. Clear low tones and I can feel the air pushing out of the grills now. I would say it has completely changed the listening and driving experience and now I have a solid foundation to upgrade on. I will hold out on upgrading the amp and speakers until Crutchfield has added speaker compatibility measurements and there is proper DSP support released that integrates with the factory screen audio controls.

I think you're absolutely right. I have the Trailhunter which already has the sound deadening and it sounds okay, mostly when listening to NPR but not music LOL. I too am waiting for crutchfield, I've been checking their site weekly for 8 months with the same answer, haven't tested your vehicle yet. My local car stereo shop is going to notify me when they get something in, so far nothing. I'm not a fan of Alpine or JBL and I'm looking for more of a higher end audio file grade setup. Maybe by this time next year I'll have it.

Hopefully the company OEM AUDIO PLUS comes up with a design for the 6th gen.
