Anyone else experiencing inconsistent remote starts? Mine only works some of the time and not past more than 20-30 ft. when it does. It sometimes seems like it is missing a signal, like it will blink the first time, then miss a press, then blink, but that only restarts the process and I end up walking to the 4R and starting it normally. Very frustrating.

Had it to the dealership twice over this and it worked both times while there. I'm going back a third and having them walk 20-30 ft away. Never works for me that far away.

I purchase new every 3 years for over 40 yrs and since they had remote starts, this is by far the worst.

It seems to be really independent on the timing of the first two key fob presses here, definitely a little tricky to get the timing right. I also have to hold the last press for 7-10 seconds and not three seconds like the manual says.

I've had this 6G for 10K miles now so I'm pretty usto the sequence of the button pushing, altho it did take some practice to getting it right.

70% of the time it works fine but never more than 15-20 ft away. Other times it seems the second push isn't being received not matter what the timing of the push.

I've tried it with both my keys and the wives and they both seem not to work at the same time, try again an hour later and it works again. Never had it work for more than 20 ft away.

Weird and frustrating.

the remote start distance has never been far for any toyota fob. they are not really built for that function unlike 3rd party remotes. the fob is mostly for unlock/lock and PTS function.

i mean my 2014 the distance was barely to the driveway. luckily i had a drone mobile remote start and used the drone fob to remote start, easily reaches across the street at work.

Honestly, if this is TOYOTA's level of electronics I may be second guessing this purchase as it is loaded with much more sophisticated electronics than the remote start and if they can't get that at least up to snuff compared to every other remote start I've ever used, it has me worried, but I don't think this is the case.

Something doesn't seem right, I'm gonna go back to the dealership and have them check it more thoroughly.

my experience its a timing issue.... I've done mine from probably 100ft before. Think it took me 2 or 3 tires but it worked.

Glad to hear, mine not so much....

It's not a timing thing, it's a sporadic thing. When it's not working, no matter who tries it or which fob we're trying, it does not work. And again, neither of the fobs ever worked past 20 ft.

I use the Toyota app to remote start the 4Runner. I tried using my FOB the way describe in that photo (double click lock, then hold lock) and it doesn’t work like I don’t have remote start via FOB. What am I doing wrong?

After seeing the demo on youtube I gave it a try.
Nothing five or six times standing beside the thing.
My Daughter grabbed the fob and mashed the unlock button a bunch of times then went through the sequence.
Works fine now.
I had to go through the unlock mashing one other time but in the last month or so it has behaved.
I am not sure with the 4runner if the remote start senses the outside temp and turns on the appropriate climate control?
I have a feeling it just picks up where it was shut down.

I have had the same issue and can only think that they want us to subscribe to the app which which always works, but has an annual fee and works from anywhere in the world.

Always had 12volt Accessories remote start on my 5th gens and it worked flawlessly including the app. Toyota app is flaky. Haven't tried from the fob

Mine starts with no indication it's running. No marker lights. Is that feature programmable? I have only tried it twice and do not have the hang of it yet. If I can't start from inside my house or another building during the winter then it's useless to me.
