No problem at all.

Been thinking about switching to the USB port on the head unit for a more stable connection. There is an interesting spot as I'm driving into Dripping Springs, outside Austin, that I get skipping while playing audio. No matter Spotify, YT Music, or Audible. Must be some strong interference to mess up the wifi signal.

You can turn on developer options for AA and tell it to only do wired. I tried this and the connection was constantly stable. Just sucks as that port isn't really in a great place. The two ports down near the wireless charger would have been better.
I'm going to stick to wireless connection for convenience BUT I can say that I have experienced the connection dropping out completely at the same spot on I-99 near Altoona in PA almost every time I drive past that spot - the system tells me: "your connection has timed out". Then it comes back a minute or two later. Very odd and have decided that it is some strong RF interference at that location. I analyze RF interference for a living and someday will try to figure out what the source is but have not done that legwork yet.

This Toyota app/connection thingy is funky.

Since I got the 4R i have to turn my wifi and bluetooth off on my cell phone to make calls in my office or it tries to connect to the 4R which is 30' away and turned off and just basically drops the call. On the other hand, a quarter of the time I have to restart my phone so my app connects for remote start, which I have to use because my FOB is a complete waste of my time 70% of the time.

I don't know what's going on any more except I know there's a good chance I'm gonna get stressed out when I try and remote start via app or fob.

Don't even get me started on trying to do it while I'm out and about and in a parking lot or something. Usually doesn't even register the fob from more than 20'-30' away.

I keep saying I'll take it in and have it checked but it's so random I'm not expecting great results and don't have the time to waste.

Rant over.... :)
.

so you are saying your phone tries to connect to your 4runner while the vehicle is off and not running?

never heard of that. sounds like a mis-configuration on your phone trying to connect to a device that is not there.

The other way around. They remote start the car from the phone. Since the car started it tries to reach their phone to connect AA and can't, then can get funky when he does get in the car with the phone. I've seen it as well, but cycling wifi is usually the quickest fix for me. Holding the volume button is the next best method.

oh ok, it wasnt specificed in the post so i was guessing his phone is trying to connect to an off vehicle.

yes when i remote start mine tries to connect, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt.

either i get in and i have a blank screen (just tap the screen to turn the screen on) or the system times out and goes to default toyota apps.

just have to hold the volume button for 5 secs and it does a soft reset of the head unit and will auto reconnect to AA (dont have to fiddle with the phone settings to get it to reconnect)

been doing that since my 2014 4runner (volume soft reset procedure)
