I just took off my winter snow tires and it was my first time jacking up my new 6th gen. The frame and suspension are clearly different from my old 5th gen so I thought I would take a look at the owner's manual.

The rear location makes sense, there is a flat spot on the axle. But the front jack location makes no sense to me at all. It's about at the middle of the vehicle! I tried it anyway and BOTH wheels started to lift off the ground. I ended up repositioning to another point on the frame further forward and I'm sure it was fine, but it just made me wonder if there's some reason Toyota recommends that specific spot. Any thoughts?

it's determined by identifying reinforced structural points and
safety margins for that specific bottle jack. lots of engineering
has been done and signed off to determine what to print in
the owners manual.

When using an OEM jack I always follow what it says
in the manual "Position the jack at the correct jack point as shown"
and this is written for those who may not know nor care there
could be other places to position the jack. this position works for everyone,
motorheads or not.

Have you actually tried that particular spot? I was using a floor jack, not the OEM bottle jack. It seems like a horrible location since 1) it requires a tremendous amount of force to lift 1/2 the vehicle, and 2) it seems very unstable with 2 wheels off the ground.

every vehicle I buy I fetch the OEM tool kit and see if I can
replace the tires, so yeah I've jacked up my 2025 4runner
twice already with the OEM bottle jack. no issues whatsoever**
it's a jack, it does what is needed to get tire high enough to
remove and install

**except the gorilla who last over-torqued my lugnuts, so
I carry a 4-way lugnut iron for that...so I can reef on it

If you are using a floor jack, you can lift from the differential - front or back. In fact, the stock TH steel skids (both front and the one for rear diff) have a embossed circle where the jack is supposed to contact. If you have the stock fiberboard/plastic "skid" plates (not sure if Platinum does) the lift point is behind the front one and in front of the second one.
(I realize I'm not addressing your question about the specified spot for the bottle jack - I've not tried so don't have any insight. I also realize this lifts 2 wheels - but if you have a floor jack, that is the way to do it, I believe.)

I have always lifted my Chevy pickups from the diff to place jack stands under the the axel at the same locations indicated as jack points. Is that a problem?

Having the front skid plate definitely makes this a lot easier, only two jack points to do all 4 tires each winter which is nice.
