I’ve noticed a green READY indicator at the bottom left of the instrument panel. It’s always on when I’m driving. Just what exactly am I supposed to be ready for?

Notice that the hybrid system is functioning properly and is ready for normal driving. It also must be on if the vehicle isn't started and you want to use the 2400 watt outlet in the rear.

It means you're READY to roll.

The READY indicator in EVs and hybrids shows that the vehicle is turned on and ready to drive. This light typically appears on the dashboard, indicating that the car can be operated, even if the gasoline engine is off.

Basically, indicates vehicle can be driven despite no engine being on. Helps differentiate between ACC/other "ON" states where some vehicle systems have power but it cannot be driven. Normally the presence of an idling engine cues you to this state.

I just find it kind of humorous that it keeps saying READY the whole time the truck is running.

Its something they added with hybrid vehicles. Because most people think a car is ready to drive when engine is on but with hybrid and electric vehicles you don't need to the engine on to drive.

Regardless, it seems a little crazy that on an all day drive the truck feels the need to continuously say READY.

It's not crazy it's what you have to do in a world where people eat Tide pods. Most of the population is for lack of a better term, dumb as a box of rocks, technology only makes it easier for them to survive.

how often does the gas engine stop running when you drive around ?
the light is there so someone (not you) will know the vehicle didn't
just die

There is kind of a light that tells you it did die. 😂

I agree is not because people are dumb it's because vehicles are different in how they operate. Until very recently the idea of a vehicle driving without the engine running was not a thing. Many people are still used to listening for a motor to start and today there a good chance you won't have that happen. It's not really needed as much on the 4runner but probably there on all hybrid vehicles and may be required but some obscure law kind of like they have to make noise at certain speeds when that first became a thing.

I am curious does the non hybrid have the light? If so that is really weird.

i use the ready light to remind me when i pull into the garage that the hybrid/ice is still ON.

when i pull into the garage its on EV mode so you dont know the engine is on, otherwise you will just exit the vehicle while it is still running technically.

i have done that a few times but regardless it will shut off after 1 hr of idle time since the vehicle will notice it is in park and ON (will throw a msg in the MID screen "1 hr to auto shutoff"

also the vehicle wont lock if you exit the vehicle or outside the vehicle while its in READY mode
