Paint scratched and messed up from snow cleaning

I have read the paint, black in my case, on the 4runner is not durable.
With winter over I am going through typical spring cleaning.
I have found a lot of scratches down to the white primer.
The truck has a lot of great features but paint is not one of them, at least black.
Not durable.

On all the cars I use a very soft wash brush.
As happens to all the cars the hard plastic that encapsulates the soft bristles at times come in contact with the body.
Nothing new there and never have damaged the paint on other cars.
The 4runner is showing ultra fine scratches through to white primer. Additionally there are areas that look like a candle slid across the finish.
That damage looks like it can be buffed out but it is actually roughed up paint.

Hard to tell from the pics but that looks like clear coat, should be able to buff that out.

Two things to take away from this;

1: it looks repairable. I would consult a detailer, but it doesnt look that bad.
2: don't wash it with a brush. Use a microfiber wash mit ONLY, otherwise you're bound to see this happen again.

Also if your car is really dirty- salt etc…rinse the mit after each section. And make sure if you dry the vehicle you use a scratch resistant microfiber towel. Never use a car wash.

I doubt that your brush did that, but as has been said, chuck the brush. And make sure anything
( micro fiber, soft cotton etc.) is absolutely clean. If you are taking it off road a lot.... get use to much more than that! lol

Couldn’t agree more. The paint/clear coat is poor quality. The road spray damage I have from one winter on both rear fenders is disappointing. And that’s with factory mud flaps. My Ford never had a paint problem.

If you zero intentions on paying to fix it. Wipe a little bit of WD40 on scratches it will still be scratched but won't see the white on black scratches. Repeat as necessary after washes.

Unfortunately there are a number of smushed paint spots on the truck in various places from snow cleaning. To get a foot of snow off the thing takes some muscle and accidents will happen.​

But three other cars sailed through without damage. It is unfortunate because the finish is like a mirror which accentuates the damage especially the white primer showing.​

Off roading in a black Ltd lmao.... the thing would look like Sonny at the toll booth.​

No off-roading here. There are almost no places in New England to off-road. Few logging roads in Maine that are smooth as I90, but that's about it.​

Otherwise the truck is great.​

Go buy some Maguiars Scratch X and it’ll get a lot better with not a lot of effort.
