Well if you're needing that "look" then don't cry about the ride and noise....you see what popularity gets you.
BFG makes a KO3 285/R60 D load tire 8ply and a 265/R70 D load that should give you a better ride...But he's goin for looks over use. He should be airing down to off road not make the daily drive better(which it didn't).
I think probably 90%+ of 4Runner (well, any adventure-adjacent vehicle or trim of vehicle) tire mods are motivated by cosmetics with some bogus internal justification that it also provides some functional benefit. Ditto lifts, maybe at a 66%+ rate (ie, the person getting the lift has never gotten anywhere near a geometry or clearance limit pre-mod and never would have).

i believe those stats...Its interesting to see and read the differences of opinions of ATtires with a 3/4ton 4wd trucks that you tow/haul and play in versus how 4runner people forget ride comfort and noise when modifying something so light as a 4runner. Like who sold you those tires and didnt tell you that your ride is going to suffer severely on the road, or even mention it would ride rough.

Hello group,

I have not been able to find a TRD Pro locally (to test drive). I was able to drive a TRD Off Road, and felt the on-road ride was quite harsh. Has anyone driven both? How does the TRD Pro compare (on road)?

Thanks in advance!
The TRD Pro will ride much smoother on-road than the TRD Off-Road. The Pro comes with high-end 2.5-inch Fox internal-bypass shocks. These soak up bumps better than the Bilstein shocks on the Off-Road. You can also adjust the Fox shocks' stiffness to match your comfort preference. Both models share heavy, rugged all-terrain tires. These tires naturally create a stiffer, "truck-like" feel on paved roads. Always check the tire pressure before a test drive. Overinflated tires (e.g., 50 psi) make the ride very harsh, while ≈ 33 psi is the sweet spot for comfort

I have both and feel the PRO feels more planted in the corners and in a straight line. I run the shocks on the firmest settings and enjoy the ride. I also upgraded the tires on the PRO to E Range 275/70/18 AT3 EVs with no complaints. The ORP has a Wescott lift / level installed. I feel it rides and drives comfortably while being very manageable on road. This vehicle is running stock Michelins. I run my tires @ 39 psi cold. I've owned mostly European vehicles other than domestic 1 ton diesel pick ups and Landrover and Mercedes SUVs prior to 4Runners along with my Land Cruiser.

When I got my TRD ORP to take home I drove it a few miles and I was like WTFBBQ!!! The ride was horrible and bumpy as hell. I checked the tire pressure and the dealer had them at 45PSI. I asked them about it later and they said that they do that since most people usually inflate them that high to get better gas mileage. WHAT?!?!

BTW, I never ever test drive cars. I sit in them, make sure that my line of sight out the windows is what I want them to be, check that the interior is what I want (hybrid vs gas rear floor height). I usually spend over an hour in a non-familiar car sitting in every seat, and laying in the back (yes, I'm very weird). Most sales people keep asking me "Are you sure you don't want to test drive it?" Nope. The only car I ever test drove was my Avalon Hybrid XSE since my wife bought it without telling me that she was doing it. I had never had a hybrid before and I really wanted a V6 but she did not hear that part. I thought the hybrid would be anemic. Boy was I wrong!

Yes. Check the tires pressure. My ORP was also over inflated. Air down to 33 psi as per manual. It makes a huge difference in the ride. Also baffled why the dealer doesn't correct it. I guess they don't even bother checking....

First thing I did when I got home from the dealer after taking delivery of my SR5 was deflate my tires to 33psi. I think they were around 45ish which is absurd. The ride didn't feel that bad at all on the way home, but maybe I was still in joy mode to really notice.

The obvious question: why?
Never needed to. I have never owned a car that I have NOT test driven and then though "Wow, this car drives horrible." Besides, I change so much in the first few months (wheels, tires, suspension, etc) that it never drives the same as it did when I first got it. Test driving it seems moot.
