I've had my Platinum trim for just over 1 month. I have 1,100 miles. Changed oil at 1K, oil was super clean. Never had squealing brakes in reverse or otherwise. No weird hums or whistles or other noises. Removed the air dam before it had a chance to commit suicide, but all screws were tight, and I did notice upon removal the remnants of blue Loctite. The sound system works as well as it can, with no low bass rattles in the door or other audio problems. The engine and transmission are excellent. And, for all this good fortune, I feel guilty.

Maybe Toyota got some corrections on these minor issues after the initial launch and worked a few out before delivering mine in mid-summer. I am amazed at many of the complaints I have read on this forum regarding the Gen 6. For those who had the brake issue and it would wake up the neighbors, you should be financially compensated for your time having to go to the dealer and be told no problem, only to learn there really was a problem, finally recognized by Toyota. For those being inconvenienced by these and other defects, Toyota should be handing out 50% discounts on OEM parts to square up with the consumer.

Toyota must do better and make amends to the customers who are spending a ton of money on their new product.

HAHA, I've paid that price with my Gen 5 Limited Special Edition Nightshade. There was a fender fitment issue I noticed shortly after purchase. Took it to the dealer. They replaced the fender, but still a fitment issue. I noticed this fitment issue on another limited in a parking lot. Shortly after the unsuccessful replacement, Toyota put out a service bulletin on the problem. The dealer attempted the proposed fix three times, but it would not hold in place. Finally, Toyota sent their techs to the dealer to see and repair the fitment issue. Took a year to get the matter resolved. I had never had a problem with my Gen 1 or Gen 4.

The incident in 2020 made me overly sensitive to these types of nagging issues in a new 4Runner purchase. Also, as a matter of absolute fact, the bass in the driver speaker had that mystery rattle in it. I was happy to trade that vehicle in on the new one. It only had 40K on it.

I love the 4Runner; I always have and always will.

So those are the people that you read posts from. It tends to make it seem like lots of people have a problem when the number is quite small.

I love the Platinum. The limited is the exact vehicle with a couple of different touches. The platinum is finished in a darker grill and all black tires, with various black accents. The substantial difference is that the Platinum only comes with the hybrid, whereas the Limited, I believe, can come in gas only or with the hybrid. It is a moot point because you will want the hybrid. The HUD only comes with the Platinum. This is the projection of information on the lower windshield. It is special, but polarized sunglasses keep you from seeing it. So, not so special when wearing Maui Jims. Tow Tech is standard on Platinum. The Platinum has heated rear seats. Oh, and the wipers are rain-sensing in the Platinum. That might be a good feature to have in the PNW.

Both vehicles are highly capable off-road, and both are expensive 4Runners. There is a YouTube video comparing a Land Cruiser with a 2025 stock Limited in a skid test, where you see the articulation of the stock Limited, and it is stunning.

I have had multiple 4Runners and have driven a 4Runner as my primary vehicle for 38 years. This new 2025 model exceeds all previous models in every meaningful category. The limited model in previous years was a little different than the more sporty-looking production 4Runners. This changed in 2025, and now the luxury trims have the same sporty look and are more off-road friendly. For example, My 2020 Limited was saddled with 245 width tire on the 20" wheel with little room in the well for larger tires. This created a skinny look on the vehicle because of the size and nature of a current 4Runner. On the current limited and Platinum, the 20" wheel is standard with a 265/55/r20 that is a massive improvement in stance and look. And, there is room for more if you want it.

Both the Limited and Platinum are costly, and the difference between the two is not that large. The navy blue leather with the octagon quilting is excellent. If you want a Platinum, wait, and it will come to your neck of the woods soon. Production and inventory are picking up, and you will get the vehicle you want, in the color you want, with no concessions. Concede nothing at this price for a 4Runner.

I went with Heritage Blue because my 1st love Gen 1 was blue and I did 450K with it. It was a base model and gave over 2 decades of trouble-free, dependable transportation and recreation. It is as though my original has been reincarnated with everything I couldn't have even imagined. BAC2BLU, best money I ever spent on a vehicle.

Thanks for this write up. I drive a 2006 Limited V8 and I love it, but it's time for an update. I'm looking at getting the Platinum when they become more widely available. I will be keeping the '06 for my kids.
Is the ride quality good? I've read some posts regarding the rough ride. It has to be better than my '06.

I agree to a point BUT.... In many cases, it's the forum "complaints/questions" that results in a recall. Many folk don't notice issues or don't bother reporting to a dealer. In those cases, I would suggest there are more issues that go unreported.

Good point. My problem with car forums is that most of the posts seem to be negative. I've been going back and forth of what my next car will be based mostly on these forums. There are a lot of Toyota haters out there. Not sure why. I have never owned anything but a Toyota with exception of my wife's Audi.

Thanks for this write up. I drive a 2006 Limited V8 and I love it, but it's time for an update. I'm looking at getting the Platinum when they become more widely available. I will be keeping the '06 for my kids.
Is the ride quality good? I've read some posts regarding the rough ride. It has to be better than my '06.

I have a 2004 V8 Limited Gen 4 that I purchased new. I gave it to my daughter when she was a junior in High School, and it had roughly 260K miles on it. She drove it through High School and College! She has over 350K on it and got a sticker for being in the 300K+ mileage club. It is still her daily driver, and you can not separate her from that vehicle.

The ride in the 2025 Platinum is fabulous. The handling is superb. The upgrades in performance and tech have to be experienced for full appreciation. Mine came with the Geolander Yokahama tires, and they are smooth for on-road, and still rated M&S.

The 2025 Platinum is the perfect upgrade for you!

I don't disagree. No new vehicle should have noisy brake pads. But it usually takes time. There's the good part of a forum, people letting others know of a problem and pushing Toyota into action and then there's the time needed to come up with a solution. With brake pads you would think it's easy. But I'm sure that there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff that takes place. For example, if the compound used to make the pads is changed what will it do to the stopping performance. Will it impact the ABS and traction control. Will it shorten the life of the rotors. Is there any other problems that could arise.

Greetings, 1st time posting here . Currently own a 5th gen that has been bulletproof but am beginning to look at the 6th gen but will be waiting on the 26' before purchasing. Mine is PT 4WD and I know that the Limited or Platinum would be nicer for my wife during those times of highway driving when you have alternating snowy and dry roads. I definitely don't like all of the chrome on the Limited so I'll have to give the platinum a look. I was active on the 5th gen forum for years and one thing I did notice is that the X-Reas suspensions (only comes on fulltime 4WD with the center diffs) seemed to be a problem with owners around the 80k mile mark. It was either replace with xreas for about $3-4k or totally take the system out and replace with a conventional suspension. It was a pneumatic system and for the 2025 models has been replaced with an equally complex but electronic Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system. Only time will tell if it's more robust and less problematic. I do have a visual preference for the TRD Offroad Premium models so will also be taking a hard look there.
