Hello everyone,

Closed the deal on a new 2026 TRD Premium Off-Road today. In Ice Cap with the black wheels, badges, tow package moonroof and a few other bits and pieces. Paid $3000 below MSRP. taking delivery after Xmas as it's still on the train. This is my first big personal vehicle, coming from a GR Corolla and GR Supra and a whole bunch of sporty cars before that. Any required reading, and popular mods to look at?

Congrats!
Your trim comes with almost everything you need, keep it OEM+ unless you really have a need.
A few things you may want to consider:

Break in oil change, yes modern engines break in proven with oil analysis. If you dont care then skip.
Frame rust protection especially if you live in the rust belt. Can be DIY if you use fluid film or surface shield.
Screen protectors are out there and fairly cheap. if you want to protect them.
Floor matts that are much superior in coverage, check out Lastfit or similar.
Mudflaps protect against rocks flying rocks on side doors, keep them on unless offroad/deep snow.
If you go offroad in moderately difficult areas then skid plates could be useful. OEM or aftermarket exist.
Suspension mods, tire size increases, lifts, "stance" spacers all come with side effects. Research them before considering bro-ing out your vehicle.

In this state, you pay 7% sales tax at the time of purchase. And then there is an annual tax attached to your license plate registration fee that is based on the value of the vehicle. My 2016 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition cost me about $125 a year When it was nine years old. It was about $350 the first year. The license plate will be about $400 next year for the four Runner. . But luckily, since I’m an old guy, my insurance is only about $750 a year. The tax goes down as the vehicle depreciates.

Also, when you buy it,the sales tax goes only against the net sales price. In other words, $50,000 vehicle, $25,000 trade-in, you only pay tax on the 25,000.
Have fun with your forerunner. I have had pickup trucks, jeeps, Tahoe’s, etc. for the last 40 years and I really like the SUVs, the way it sits up and you can see things, and the way it’s heavy so if you get an accident, you might win. By win, , I mean survive. Sounds like a great Christmas present.

It's 8% in my county in Ohio, it's not a state regulated number. Plates and such is about $100 and insurance I don't know yet till I transfer the insurance from my Corolla to the 4runner. I'm 45 with an excellent record so shouldn't be much more, if any. Tax deduction on trade in is the same, you don't pay taxes on the trade amount. It was the wife's idea so I told her she still owes me a Christmas present 🤣
