Has anyone replaced their light bar located in the grill of the TRD Pro? I have the SR5 but got the heritage grill which has a large opening for a light bar which comes stock on the TRD Pro. Has anyone installed a new one that fits there? If so please provide the details.

Lots of threads on this my friend - search heritage grille top right and you’ll see. Can also check out rave off road for even more options as part of a package (or not)

If you are not really going to use the light bar and you just want to install one to fill the location in the grille you might want to check out Tractor Supply Store or Harbor Freight. Tractor Supply sells Traveller brand LED Lights. Both outlets have a pretty good selection that won't break the bank.

If you buy the TRD pro OEM light bar resale with the mounting bracket, does the SR5 have the threads to bolt it on?

If you buy a Toyota light bar with the mounting bracket, it will bolt right into the TRD Pro or Trailhunter grills, but none of the others.

However...Getting the Toyota light bar to work is a whole other affair entirely. I bought one and have been trying to figure it out. There is no plug and play solution, and no one has figured out how to actually get the light bar to fire without tearing it apart (and that's on other models, it may not work here).

Source: Me. I bought all the parts to do a full Trailhunter grill/light bar conversion and...It's not going well LOL

might have to get a 2 day sub with techstream to see if there is a canbus setting or a bcm programming issue.

or it could just be a setting within techstream that need to be set that isnt available in carista

there is a lot of stuff you can set in techstream that is not in carista but since toyota went with GTS (global techstream) its harder to run a personal copy of techstream unlike the old days.

i think the last offline version i saw was v 18

The factory light bar (Toyota calls it: LED Illumination Light Center or Light Emitting Diode Illumination) connects to the dash switch, the headlights, and CANBus. That's what I've found so far. The switch itself also connects to a few other places (haven't chased that squirrel yet, probably won't). Techstream may help, but you need a LOT of physical connections to be made long before getting to the software side of the house (if you want it to behave like factory).

Duplicating the signal to the back of the factory light bar to get it to fire off isn't simple at all. There's no simple hot/ground/relay setup. The Tundra guys gave up a couple of years ago and just drilled a hole in the back of the light and made their own. I started down that path a couple of days ago, and even that might be a stretch for us 4Runner folks (slightly different bar). It's 10 pins on the back of the light, and 12 wires on the inside of the bar for the same connection. There's an entire 6" long circuit board and a whole ass wiring harness inside that factory light bar. As far as I can tell after a couple of years of forum posts on this exact subject...The Tundra guys couldn't do it, the Taco guys couldn't do it, and I seriously doubt that I'm going to be able to do it...I'm handy and can do basic wiring, but I'm not anything close to being an expert, I'll give up and order aftermarket soon most likely.

I'm going to have to drill a hole, cut wires loose and hope they're long enough to feed through that hole, and try to make my own connections (assuming I can access all of them...So far, I can only get to 4 out of 7 to manually make them light). If it doesn't work, it will ruin the light bar and I will have lost the $200+ I spent on it. If it does work...I'll have spent a ridiculous amount of time and effort to save a small amount of money for a light bar that by all measures...Is inferior to all but the cheapest aftermarket bars.

ouch

sorry for the loss :ROFLMAO: but i guess it benefits others in the long run. /s

i guess since toyota light bar on the tundra was oem locked, i am guessing they extended the process to all the other BoF light bars to lock them down also.

guess it will promote 3rd party brands more :)
