Alright 4Runner6G fam, I could use some real-world advice 🙏

I’m officially starting my rock slider search and figured this group would be the best place to ask before pulling the trigger.

This is my daily driver, but I do plan on getting it out on actual trails — not hardcore rock crawling every weekend, but enough that real protection matters. I’m trying to strike a balance between strength, clearance, and practicality, while still keeping the rig clean-looking.

I’ve seen a ton of options out there, and it’s honestly hard to tell what’s marketing vs what actually holds up long term.

A few things I’m curious about:

  • What brand sliders are you running and how have they held up?
  • Bolt-on vs weld-on — any regrets either way?
  • Any issues with ground clearance, rust, rattling, or install?
  • Would you buy the same sliders again or go a different route?

If you’ve got pics, even better 👀🔥

Appreciate any insight — hoping this helps others too 🤙

I think your first decision is steel or aluminum. Steel stronger for rougher stuff, aluminum still capable but not as strong. Aluminum won’t rust like steel. Next decision is whether you want an integrated step or just the slider.
I went with Greenlane aluminum with step and love them. Great fit. No clearance impact for what I do. And I like the look (especially with the kick out).
They are bolt on and holes were perfectly aligned. Only thing to manage (and this is not specific to a brand of a slider) was Toyota hadn’t threaded all the holes on the frame (at least early on with the ORPs).

Are you confident with the protection the Greenlane sliders will provide? I'm not a hardcore off roader but I do get on some challenging where I want to be confident that I have adequate protection.

I have the CBI Rocksliders on my Pro and they are pretty great. Check them out as well.

Unfortunately there’s only one real answer to your question. Aluminum is strong. Steel is stronger.
No one will be able to say aluminum is strong enough for every situation that you decide to put your 4Runner in. I’d give Greenland a call or send them an email. They are super helpful, and fully acknowledge there’s a diff and the right choice depends on what you intend on doing.
It will still ultimately be up to you to decide. But it really is situation dependent. And there’s other considerations like weight and potential for rust, etc. that are also dependent on what each individual deems as important to them.
For me…they fit the bill and have not disappointed.

Recently received and installed the Cali Raised Step Edition sliders. I lived for a work-week with the driver's side running boards removed before I could finish installing the sliders - its SO good to be back to stepping into the car rather than climbing. (I'm 5'9' so not really short but the stepover height with my vehicle (including larger tires and 1.25" leveling kit) is around 2'.

Seems to me like the sliders could/should extend just a bit farther forward and rearward but I expect that for most rock/tree scenarios these will do the protection job I might need.
I've been out on several onX 5 and 6 trails and have avoided a few paths I might take now that I have steel skids (front LC & transmission) and these sliders. Hope to give them a workout at Raush Creek in PA in late February. (Any opinions on importance of a differential skid.?.. I've not pulled the trigger on that yet.)

Haven't had a chance to wash the truck since my last offroad adventure so sliders are cleaner than the rest of the truck:

Stepping in without running board or sliders is a pain to me:
