Unfortunately there’s only one real answer to your question. Aluminum is strong. Steel is stronger.
No one will be able to say aluminum is strong enough for every situation that you decide to put your 4Runner in. I’d give Greenland a call or send them an email. They are super helpful, and...
I would think so. A couple things to consider. The 285/75/17 is about 3mm (around 1/8”) larger than the 285/70/18. I don’t think that would be the difference between fit and no fit, but just so you’re aware. The bigger consideration may be in the actual tire you plan to go with. The...
I think your first decision is steel or aluminum. Steel stronger for rougher stuff, aluminum still capable but not as strong. Aluminum won’t rust like steel. Next decision is whether you want an integrated step or just the slider.
I went with Greenlane aluminum with step and love them...
Same as chouser. Mine doesn’t seem to blow enough air. Couldn’t cool things enough when really hot and not as fast as my 5th gen to heat things up quickly in the cold.
Agree with Dead Horse that steering wheel doesn’t heat as much as other vehicles (temp and consistency of temp over the...
I run a BFG K03. All the detail is in the thread I referenced in my earlier response. KO3 is 33.7. AT4W is 34. And I agree, and referenced in my post, that the 1/4” would make a difference.
So, yes, your comment is fair. Would be great if threads discussing the same topic were linked.
Pic of the bracket you have to deal with. The thread I highlighted shows more pics of the tire in the carrier including how it’s right up against the hitch receiver. But if you deal with the bracket it fits fully inflated. 285/70/R18.
If you want any other pics or info lmk and I’ll DM you.
Bigger than 33 will fit with a slight mod. I fit a 285/70/18 as a spare. With a K03 that’s just under 34”. Thread for pics and comments if you’re interested is
Largest size spare tire fit in undermount carrier?
I personally wouldn’t be out in a remote spot without a spare.
PSA: there’s another thread where some fine person explained how to at least lower the volume on the rear cargo area door beeps (PBD - Power Back Door) ….heres a pic of the thread and the solution to lower volume in case anyone else hadn’t figured it out yet.
You’d have to deal with this bracket. Cut the vertical portion off. Leave the horizontal portion so you still have the protection if tire gets forced upward (best to cover the cut edge with something to protect the tire from the cut metal).
And you would need to make sure the tire is seating...
System should only brake if the vehicle was in your path. So either you were at a bend in the road that meant the parked vehicle was in front of you for a moment, or there’s something wrong. But there would be a question on whether there’s something wrong because if it’s reacting to vehicles...
The answer depends on a couple other things you need to decide on…
1) offset of wheels you intend to use
2) whether you want a same size spare and if you want it stored in the under mount cradle.
285/70/18 K03 fit with no rubbing or removal of anything (felt or crash plate) on my ORP with a...
Nice! Saves you some hassle and money if they’re already threaded.
I was able to see both the kickout and non-kickout type installed and I liked the looks of the kickout option. Plus with the extra functionality it was an easy decision for me.
I can confirm they will fit without issue on the ORP with the +45mm TRD black wheels. I have that exact setup. No crash plate removal. No rubbing. I have a 3/8” Greenlane strut spacer but I don’t believe that would have changed anything without it.
I also have the same size spare fit in...
Holes were all there, but not threaded. Apparently some 4Runners came threaded but not all. So they needed some extra hardware (Greenlane sells a hardware kit for this purpose).
I’m running 285/70/18s on the TRD upgrade wheel which is a +45 offset. No rubbing, no trimming, and crash plate...
I have the Greenlane sliders with kickout. Super happy with fit, finish, and functionality.
Update:
A few more photos and comments on how the Greenlane rock sliders/steps are working out….
What I like…
A combined rock slider and step is what I wanted (I ordered the full top deck)
Rear...
They are E.
On fitting it in...not done without some mods to the brackets at the front of the spare, so you'd have to be prepared for that.
But the 285/70/18 sure does look good. And I have more risk of tire damage in remote fire road areas than I do of dragging a lower hanging spare doing...
