Totally agree. I pushed the tech on what’s causing it and they said everything checks out. At least I have it documented incase something else goes on.

haha I hear that, I almost left the dealership with new tire and wheel set up but decided I didn’t wanna get chewed out again haha.
I made another thread on this issue not realizing you had posted this. Mine makes the exact same noise under the same conditions. At least we know we’re not alone in the issue, or perhaps it’s normal. Would be good to get some clarity on it. Kinda annoying when trying to drive windows down

yea I agree it’s kind of annoying with the windows down. I still can’t help but think it’s not normal but I guess time will tell as more people get these trucks. If I find anything else out I’ll update this thread.

Got my 4R a few weeks ago and have 730miles, and love it so far. But when driving I hear a buzzing like noise when the windows are down, that’s coming from the engine bay.
it’s there on slight steady throttle but goes away when accelerating or off the pedal.
it sounds almost electrical buzz or crickets.
anyone else experience this or have an idea what’s it could be? Thought maybe a wastegate issue? Thanks!

I recently bought a 4Runner and only have about 300 miles on the odometer. I’m already hearing a humming noise, even with the windows closed. Are you guys still experiencing it, or has anyone found a fix?

I test drove one the other day, I though I heard a high pitched humming sound. Is that the turbo?

Just got a new SR5. I hear the same thing with and without AC on and seems to change under engine load and throttle input. Possibly the D4S system turning on and off the direct injection?

can confirm mine is making the same sound when on throttle, no a/c, can only notice it with windows down. Sounds like a throttle body issue or something

Bumping an old thread. Now that it's getting warmer and the windows are down more, this noise has become more annoying again.

Has anyone been able to pinpoint where or what it is coming from? Even though others are experiencing it, I can't believe it would be considered normal.

I have this too and took it to the dealer and they couldn't replicate because I didnt realize it was only when the windows are down. Id be interested to see what this is if anyone goes.

Also I did have heavy shifting investigated at stary of day and they deemed it a vehichle characteristic. The Forman checked 2 new 4runners and a landcruiser to compare and they all do it so. Par for the course if anyone has this as well.

I suggest you confirm its not the turbo you are hearing. I hear the turbo more as a whistle than a buzz but it has a bit of a buzzy quality. And its easy to test:
- Set one of your MID screens to show the Turbo Boost
- open the windows
- accelerate smartly - listen for sound of the turbos spinning whenever the boost meter tells you that is happening.
Now you know what the Turbo sounds like - and whether that is what you are hearing.
Sorry if this is too obvious and not your issue. Just trying to help eliminate one possibility.

I recently stood outside the vehicle running and have to say this engine makes the worst noises i have ever heard. As long as it continues to run good I will consider it good to go.

So mine its windows down and barely touching the gas. The turbo doesn't even get to spool or make its sweet music lol.
