I’m starting to think that the poor MPG is a TRD Pro thing as my MPG’s are pretty much at par with your numbers. I too filed a complaint with dealer and Toyota . Received a live call back from Toyota.
I'm at 2386 miles and have not reset my trip since getting the vehicle. Total average since I got it with 6 miles on the odometer is 18.3. Was sitting at 18.5 for a bit, but has been dropping a little lately. I run 93 Exxon. Highway all the way to work 4 days a week, then work from home on Fridays. 36 minute trip in the morning, 65-70 no cruise, and then the same trip home takes an hour. Speeds more stop and go traffic in Austin, then 40-50 on backroads to avoid construction. I don't really care, but does seem worse than it should be. Guessing battery weight isn't helping. For reference, my 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness with the 2.4 turbo, running the same gas, averaged 22.5. I also drove a little faster in that vehicle.

~9600 miles, stock, 22.3 overall average, eco/normal, 87oct. Just did an ~80ish mile round trip yesterday and averaged 24.2. Don't know how y'all are getting such trash mpg... heavy foot? always in sport? towing a lot? lots of elevation gain?

Have to expect crappy mpg with bigger/heavier wheels/tires
Heavy foot, no. I haven't even floored this thing ever. I've been trying to be a more defensive driver to save my sanity in Austin traffic, so been taking it pretty easy in this thing. Morning RPMs rarely get above 2500. I never tow, except for my bike sometimes on a hitch rack. Never come out of Normal mode for more than a day. I tried Eco, but didn't like the engine response. Maybe I should give it another shot. Not much elevation where I am. Your MPG is about what I'd expect.

It's not the battery for the most part. it's the stop and go traffic. apples and oranges for the subaru

Hi everyone. MPG not too impressive for me so far. Stock 2025 trd off road. Roof rack probably affects mpg a bit.

I have a prius and know how to drive with a light foot :) 1600 miles on the 4runner odometer with around 18.5 mpg hand calculated. It has been pretty cold so that doesn't help but still... mixed driving, dont go over 65 on highway.

I pay way to much attention to the electric boost meter. I think the problem is eco mode doesnt really change the hybrid logic. The electric boost almost NEVER kicks in eco, not even from a stop sign when I am in eco mode because I drive with a very light foot. Im pretty sure I get better mpg in normal because I get way more electric boost.

My battery eternally hovers at 6 or 7 bars. I guess the truck is saving it for a dyno pull or drag racing lol, but jeez. They need a true eco mode on these trucks. I dont care if the battery "runs out" occasionally. I think I read the electric motor has 80ish hp. Yet it only runs in electric mode for seconds at a time?

I do love the truck but wonder if I should have just gotten the gas. The most dissapointing thing of all is when I did mash on the pedal the other day to merge and the truck felt like my prius cvt. Lots of noise no scoot. I guess it was figuring out to do with the clutches in the electric motor...

Sorry for the rant :)

Took delivery earlier this week and had an off-Friday to play. So I gassed it up, reset the MPG/ trip computers and headed out on a 100 mile trip from Greenville, SC. Did all back country driving down to Francis Marion NF and hit about 10-15 miles of trail and then back roads through small towns on the way back. Peaked at 22.4 MPG before hitting the dirt. Dropped to 20.7 before reaching pavement (played on some obstacles familiarizing myself with the crawl control system). Finished the circuit at 21.8 MPG. Used Normal the whole trip and had it in 4HI most of the time on the dirt with the exception of 4LO while I played on some muddy obstacles. It's a small sample size but thought I would share.

Good data point. When I read reports like yours it makes me wonder if there is somthing wrong with my truck when I never break 20 mpg on a single trip. Seeing the spread in mpg on this forum is strange. There is literally no possible way to get the advertised epa 23mpg with my 4runner.

I get the shittiest mpg and can't figure out why. Getting like 18 for daily driving when I am seeing others getting like 20+.

I feel your pain. I truly dont understand it. I either have to stop caring or it is probably going to make me sell the truck. I like everything else about mine, but how does it get the same highway mpg as a sequioa? And this is not an exaggeration, i used to drive a hybrid sequoia at work at got 18mpg. Im at 18.5mpg in my 4runner.

I’ll never get rid of it. I always expected crappy mpg, but was dumb enough to believe the advertised mpg.

Single/low double digits here and lots of remote start warmups along with 4wd so mileage dropped. Much better than my 3 previous 6 cylinder 4Runners

@ the 10:55 mark, in their fuel economy tests the non hybrid 4Runner got the same mpgs as the twin turbo v6 Tundra.
