Ramps or floor Jack+jack stands?

Curious what everyone here is using and what feels the safest.

A good floor jack that doesn't take too many pumps to raise the truck will come in handy for years but it needs to have enough lift to it too as the front wheels will droop a lot when lifting. You can also use the floor jack in combination with jack stands to manipulate the rear axle when changing out rear coil springs. Whenever using the floor jack you should be using your jack stands to support the load while working under the truck vs. using the floor jack. If you plan on doing your own work you will gets years of use out of the jack and the stands.

So far I haven't used anything, as it has enough ground clearance to just do what I have done with it on the ground. I installed all 3 skid plates that way. It would have been easier with it lifted, but it really was not bad. And yes, I am a little fearful when I am under a vehicle...even on the ground! I keep imagining a tire popping or something (no, I don't really think that would happen, but my brain still brings the thought forward!). If I really do need to lift a vehicle, I set it on some heavy wood blocks such as 4x6 (larger dimension on the ground) and/or 4x4/2x4 in an appropriate place where they would not slip off. And I do not go too high with that so I comfortable that it will not slip/tip/fall. Wood will not break, so is safe that way. I would ever use something like concrete or brick, as they could crush and it would be quick and catastrophic in more ways than one.

I’m not. Any lifting it’ll go to a shop. But when the warranty and such is gone it’ll definitely be my Husband.

I highly recommend the hydraulic Quick Jacks. I used them for a number of years until I quit doing my own maintenance.

You drag them under, align with jack points and raise the whole vehicle with the push of a button. Obviously, you need to know what your doing and be careful.

Not used on a 4Runner and sold the jacks.

nothing, I crawl under it...plenty of room

if I need to lift it, I use the OEM bottle, chunk of wood when needed, and jack stands

Got a floor jack and jack stands soon after buying the truck. Don't have suitable ramps. Have had it up and down many times doing tire swaps and other things. Jack stands are not quite tall enough for the bigger tires (285/70R18) to be removed and replaced with downward travel of suspension so I lift the extra inch or so with floor jack and don't let anyone under in that circumstance.

Per comment above, no need to lift to install skids but I wanted the bit of extra space when installing the transmission skid. The front skid is easy to remove and replace without lifting (e.g., for oil change).
Floor jack has gotten a lot of use as I have swapped wheels and tires multiple times - and plan to continue to swap now that I've settled in on essentially a set for long distance travel (OEM tires on TRD PRO wheels) and a set for winter weather/off-road driving (285/70 Toyo ATIIIs on TRD flat black option wheels).

I've got the CaliRaised step edition rock sliders coming in a week or two and wondering if it makes any sense to lift one side of the vehicle and put it on jack stands front and back to provide more access for the install. I know its not necessary because I've removed and reinstalled the running boards without lifting and know there is space. But am wondering if its safe to lift the vehicle on one side and hold it with jack stands. I expect to use the floor jack to hold the sliders up while I make the attachments.
Figured this was as good a thread to ask about lifting one side as any. Thanks for any insights.

I used a floor jack when installing the 3 skid plates, I just wanted more room to work. Now that they are on it's even easier since there's a single lift point on the front skid and a single lift point on the back trans skid for lifting the front and back.

I've got the Land Cruiser front skid (essentially the same as Trailhunter except TOYOTA embossed instead of TRAILHUNTER). The transmission skid is the same for THunter and LC - and works with the Hybrid 4R trims. Vendor mistakenly sent me both front skids so I have this shot comparing them:
