Factory (OEM) cross bar labels

The OEM roof rack cross bars came with my ORP Hybrid. I removed them after a while as I did not need them for a while (figured maybe a bit less wind noise and marginally better aerodynamics, although I did not notice either in practice). When I went to reinstall them I noticed some odd labelling. I searched this forum and did not find anything on this, and I watched a couple videos that stated the (mostly) obvious but did not mention this at all. The ends of the cross bars, as well as the decorative end caps, are labeled so you know which is left and right. There seems to be an inconsistency that makes me wonder if I have one that was assembled wrong. I tried asking the service center at 2 dealers and both basically shrugged their shoulders and did not bother even trying to look it up in any way.

My decorative caps are labeled LH and RH (2 of each), I assume left hand and right hand--although I am not sure why they bother to put the "H" part). OK, those make sense.

The ends of the bars themselves, though are labeled LF and RH. The service guys said LF is left front, but when I asked why I had 2 labeled "left front" they basically shrugged and repeated that it meant left front.

Soooo...they do fit, but has anyone else checked or noticed this?

Good question. Mine are sitting in my garage. Maybe never going back on. They definately make a lot of wind noise. I have never used them on any suv i have had. I am just mad i payed $400 for something i wont use. Cargo cover either. Toyota is amazing at $$$ add on.

Mine are removed so I checked them.

The cross bars are labeled same as yours. But one cross bar has an adhesive label on the top surface on each end that says “FRONT” which means that is the cross bar that goes at the front of the vehicle.

As for which edge of that cross bar is the “leading” edge… another user on the forum previously posted that “the crossbars have one side that is smooth and round. The other is more angled and has a ‘lip’ or spoiler at the top.”

I labeled mine as I removed them. To minimize wind noise, mount the cross bar with the edge that has the lip FORWARD.

The decorative caps are labeled the same as yours. I also added labels to the caps as I took them off. An LH was driver front. An RH was passenger front. The other LH was driver rear. And the other RH was passenger rear.

Thank you for checking! Maybe we just chalk it up to a weird abbreviation scheme, although honestly I cannot imagine what the "F" could mean. And yes, mine does have the "Front" label as well, although seems like that would wear off over time--would be nice if it were embossed in better. That said, once I inadvertently tried putting them in the wrong way around and they really do not fit, so unless you really force it you will know if you are wrong.

What's wrong with the cargo cover? I had the mud flaps and cargo liner deleted and added the cargo cover to my Trailhunter. I like the caego cover on my past vehicles, a Tahoe and X5.

this is why its sometimes good to have your truck still on the boat (and a good dealer) I was able to add/delete PIO and DIO before it hit the port. Deleting the $400 cross bars was one.

The ca dealer brought mine in from nevada. It came with those extras.
The cargo cover wont get used because i allways have the seats up to carry cargo
