Yes TV and social media have a huge impact on the unsuspecting or educated minds. I just find the marketing strategies to drum up business for the service centers to be overwhelming in the commercials to sell new cars. Look at Subaru and they were the game changer years ago when they introduced the whole outdoor, family adventure type of commercials that pretty much saved subaru. And they're still doing it now with the little cute puppy rolling around and playing with the car. Makes me want to buy one:)

It's just a marketing/advertising tactic to help generate more service business for the dealerships, not necessarily programming minds.
Let's face it, a lot of people don't know WTF they're doing when they try to work on their own car, even the so-called backyard mechanics. I've seen it firsthand when I used to work in auto parts.
That is true BUT "certified Toyota mechanics" are often worse! I'll continue to do my own for 99% of maintenance. 5 4Runners and counting.

No arguments from me about that! I've lost faith in my local dealership's service department.
Back when I was leasing a 2021 Corolla, they couldn't figure out a dash rattle and noted on the paperwork that it's "normal operation" because the Corolla is an entry-level car.
Fast forward to my TH, which specifically calls for a 5-tire rotation. I brought it in for the 5k Toyota Care service, and my spare didn't get rotated.
I've always been one to do my own maintenance, and now it looks like I'll have to go back to doing my own tire rotations...

its because they are lazy and dont want to waste the time to lower, remove, clean up the tire, mount it, then put he old one in the spare tire location.

it all comes down to time wasted to rotate a 5th wheel in/out.
