I heard people talk about the bad side effects of operating vehicles (specifically motorcycles and Can-An Spyders) in ECO mode. Don’t recall exactly but I thought it changes air fuel mixture detrimental for longevity. Anywhos, does anyone have specific knowledge of Toyota’s ECO mode doing anything bad, or is it just changing gas pedal and shift points for actual fuel economy? Thanks to everyone for all the knowledge shared here too.

Page 406 in the manual. Think bottom line, no issue running it all the time. I am pretty sure a bunch of folks around here do.

"Helps the driver accelerate in an
eco-friendly manner and improve
fuel economy through moderate
throttle characteristics and by controlling
the operation of the air conditioning
system (heating/cooling)

personally i run eco in winter time due to winters in ND and stop lights/stop signs and not spinning the wheels due to too much torque/hp. (this also helps in the 23 tundra for the wife more so since the majority of her torque is available at 1700 rpms and having a twin turbo in that v6 easily breaks traction even during the summer)

it usually reduces the output of the engine and gearing more so when tipping into the gas pedal.

during spring/summer/fall i run normal or custom mode (not really fond of the increased steering input required during sport modes)

the only real noticeable issue i see is the engine lugs at time since it tries to get into the highest gear it can too fast vs the old 5 spd. i mean i can run around 1400 rpms at 55 mph. but it does sit at 2100 rpms at 75 mph which was the same as the old 5th gen

it just feels different than the old 5th gen and it sounds like its lugging in gear when you are driving around town/highway speeds.
