Recovery Points (or just for trailer safety chains)?

So there are two recovery points in the front and one on the rear right. I noticed two holes, one on each side of the trailer hitch mount. Can these also function as recovery points or are they just for trailer safety chains?

you'll bend or rip the chain attachment holes with any serious pulling

to recover using the hitch, install a d-ring in the hitch or use a loop around the hitch pin itself

the hitch is strong enough to lift the 4runner vertically

If you need to pull from the rear of the vehicle, you can use the loop of the tow strap (or recovery strap) and the hitch pin.

Remove the rubber cap from the hitch mount, stick the looped end of the strap into the receiver and insert the hitch pin into the loop and secure the pin. Be careful to pull straight back when you do this so you don't damage the strap with the edge of the receiver.

These are the easiest and probably the safest, most versatile way to anchor/attach a tow strap or chain. Purchased this one from Warn Industries years ago and it has seen a lot of use on my 3/4 ton truck. Just ordered another one off Amazon so I can have one in each vehicle. Several different manufacturers now and different colors/options. In addition to using this or my front hooks on the truck to drag someone out of a jam, I have also used it to anchor myself to a tree in order to winch somebody else out in slippery conditions like snow. As soon as I find a mount that I like a winch will be on our 4Runner.
