Currently own a RTT from my last rig (Wrangler) and recently bought an ORP. Looking into roof racks and it seems like it is a lot more common to get a full length rack on the 4runners. Was curious as to what most opinions were on here on justifying the full length or going with the shorter, 3/4 rack.

Thank you!

I think the full length is mostly more popular because of the extra real estate for other things in addition to a tent (boxes, track mounts, etc) or a really large hardshell tent.
Or aesthetics...I have a buddy that said the 3/4 racks look like a receding hairline :ROFLMAO:, whereas I like the look because I think it looks more stock/simple. I've been torn on which to get myself so am curious other's thoughts!

I went with ¾ ARB on Mudbath Pro, also rock sliders, all port-installed OEM. Looks really sleek. About the only mod I feel I’d like would be ditch lights. Feeling really good about keeping this mostly stock.

I went with the ARB due to the sun roof. If I didn’t go sun roof it’s no comparison, full rack or nothing.

Any pics of the sunroof coverage by a full rack? (Looking up out of drivers seat)

I had full length Prinsu on my 5th Gen Premim and had no issues with the sunroof - it cleared by a couple of milimeters. The same rack came with my 6th Gen iForce, and I don't have a sunroof, but as others have said, it is better to have more real estate than less when it is time to load up especially if on the hybrids with a little less space in the back. With the full size you can attach a wider awning also.

Agreed on awnings. I just measured out for the ARB 8' and the 3/4" rack just is too small to handle it. I have a 5' Ironman that I'm pulling off my Xterra, but a 6' should be fine on the 3/4 racks.

Thank you so much for all the responses and feedback! Definitely looking into the full length. Leaning towards a Sherpa but boy is that price steep!

@ggrant20 The receding hairline... I can't unsee that now!

I apologize, I can’t unsee it either! Don’t want to ruin it for anyone though 😂

Haha! I always thought the 3/4 look a little weird but now I can't get the receding hairline image out my mind!

The full length roof racks remind me of an aircraft carrier and look silly to me. If it was just about looks I'd go 3/4 but I'm also concerned about blocking my sun roof and wind noise with the full length. My ORP came with factory cross rails which were wicked noisy and removing them cured the problem.

So now I ask, which 3/4 roof rack has the least amount of wind noise?

I've always admired the looks of the Gen 5 with the 3/4 basket type roof rack. That item alone seemed to take the 4Runner out of the SUV category and into the off-road world. I wish that they made one for my Gen 6.

While I'm at it, any feedback on the factory 3/4 roof rack? Yea, I know, it's expensive, but so isn't my 4Runner itself.

Just did a bolt on 3/4 today. Easy enough to remove (8 bolts). It’s a bit tall being mounted to the cross bars. But very well made.

It’s a “Kuat Dek”

they make a direct amount system as well with integrated lighting that is pretty darn cool.

That looks like your first notable modification. But yours would never work in my garage, it would foul with the garage door operating system. I need some sort of a low profile rack. But so many of them look agricultural and sort of homemade (not yours).
I also have a silver 4Runner. I like the color, it would not have been my first choice, but I got almost $4K knocked off the sticker price.
