Cracked Premium Package Windshield Help!!!!

I was just cleaning my car and saw that there is a crack from a rock in the corner of my windshield. When googling the estimated cost for premium package cars, it is estimating $1,680-$3k because of the recalibration of the cameras and sensors. I have had the car less than a year and I am not thrilled I already have to do this, especially when put ceramic tint on it that cost $250.

Anyone have any info on how to get this done cheaper or a Southern California connection that can help? Thanks!

Get windshield coverage from your insurance lol

Glass specific coverage is not offered by my insurance company but it should be covered under my comprehensive, so it’ll be $500 since that is my deductible, which still sucks because I’ll have to spend another $250 for tint again.

I’ve had no issues getting the insurance to cover tint AND glass protection film along with a new windshield. Typically I go to my trusted detailer for glass replacements. He’ll do the tint and protection film at the same time. Insurance pays the whole thing. Even if I had a $500 deductible, it’d be worth it.

In my experience, insurance policies cover glass when the damage is sufficient to interfere with vision or create some other safety issue. 4Runner windshields seem to be rock magnets. I'm on my third windshield on my 2019 ORP (~185K miles), and I only replace the glass when the divot is in my field of view and is distracting. My current windshield has at least three chips/divots that I've noticed, but none in my field of vision when driving so I don't worry about them. If one develops a crack that keeps expanding, then I'll get the glass replaced before the crack gets too big. I wait as long as possible because I don't want to give my carrier an excuse to drop my policy (or glass coverage) or increase my rate due to frequent claims. Of course, YMMV.

When I get a chip on my '98, I have it repaired. IME, a repaired chip rarely develops into a problem. They will not repair a chip in your direct line of vision (you wouldn't want to anyway, it still can reflect glare after repair), but elsewhere they will and the repairs look barely visible. I think I saved a lot of glass replacements by doing this. Can you still repair a 6G glass in the similar fashion given all those fancy features?

It's the cost of car ownership. Why do you have your windshield tinted anyways? Not only is it illegal in every state; I can't image CA being less strict about it. No to mention the fine involved. Don't spend the money to get it retinted because it's only a matter of time before you'll have to replace the windshield again. Might happen in 2 months or 2 years; but it will happen again.

It’s only a 50% but it’s a ceramic tint to keep the heat low when left in the sun. Makes a huge difference in comfort especially with black leather seats on a dark colored car.

Here in Houston, tinted windshields are everywhere. Sure they're highly illegal, but the cops don't seem to care, even when you can tell every window is 5%...

I just got a quote from Safelite for $1500 for a replacement windshield for '25 TRD Off Road Premium.

Are you sure it's from a rock and not a stress crack?

Yes. There is an impact mark at one end of the crack.

There’s some films out there that are optically clear but still offer UV protection and help with summer heat. With that being said, insurance has covered both tinted and clear windshield films for me.

As far as legality goes, I’ve never had an issue with 50% windshield tint in TX, CA, or NC. I personally can’t live without windshield tint. Helps a LOT with heat and is much better for eye health. You can also def save some install cost if you get it done at the same time as a windshield replacement. IMO, installers charge less as it’s much easier to tint the glass prior to install.

I had a chip in mine repaired a few days before having Ceramic put on the windshield.
Insurance sent someone to repair the windshield (not in line of sight), epoxy fill guaranteed not to crack (whatever that's worth). Tint Shop just called for a verbal that tinting with a known crack would be okay.
I had similar chips in my 5Gen, no issues with epoxy crack repair.
I'm not sure if they can repair a chip after the tint, but I don't see why not (unless the chip is excessive).
First time having ceramic and would 100% do it again.
