Just putting this out there from consumer reports. If I was going to make an upgrade, I’d trade up for either a Trailhunter or Lexus GX.

I test drove a 25 LC, a 5th gen 4R and finally a 25 non-hybrid 4R before I made my decision. The LC just didn’t feel right. It was as if I was driving a bread truck. I didn’t really want a hybrid yet, and I didn’t want to use the higher octane fuel unless I wanted to do so. It was more than I wanted to pay and didn’t have the creature comforts that I liked in the ORP. I’ll concur that if something changes on the LC, I might be convinced to buy one. I am doubtful we’ll see a 6 cylinder reintroduced, but I’ve always had high hopes for a diesel engine in American Toyotas. Having owned a Dodge Ram with a diesel, I appreciate the torque and pulling power.

…And the Land Cruiser is at the very bottom of the list firmly into the Land Rover territory. Why in the world one wants to pay $20k extra for the same thing, just less reliable and more questionable?
People don’t understand that the so called Land Cruiser 250 sold in North America is an afterthought assembly of parts in order to satisfy EPA emissions standards. The real Land Cruiser 250 Prado sold around the world has the good 2.8L turbo diesel engine, without the idiotic hybrid patch we are getting here. At least get the 4R gas only version. The 2.4 turbo is a strong engine which has proven to be reliable and dependable.

The original poster asked for an advice. He is getting it, supported by objective information published by the Consumer Reports. The politics around diesel vehicles in the US as a different subject and is off topic…

I definitely wouldn't do it. Tiny 17.9 gallon gas tank + poor highway aerodynamics = fail

I'd keep the 4R and put some Fox shocks on it, they fix the ride quality

If you really want a new car, have you considered the ineos grenadier? It comes in an awesome light blue color, saw one today and can be had to mid 70s

Wow, Mid 70s. One would think older folks would drive those?

Yeah, honestly those are the biggest deal breakers. 17 gal tank is hilarious on a truck that gets sub 20 mpg. My 5th gen 4runner at least has like a 21 gal tank so even tho its thirsty, I wasn't at the pump too often. 6th Gen is slightly better with 19, but I feel like I am at the gas station a lot...

Honestly grenadier was high on my list, but ofc I want like the newest newest one (I think they fixed a bunch of gripes people had) in the higher trim which is like 80k. It looks perfect in that blue, and that inline BMW 6cyl is such a beast of an engine. I also kinda doubt its comfortable for daily driving. I might scoop a used one in a few years... Even my wife says "maybe we need that" when we pass one on the highway 😂

Get what you want! Still don't know how you are only getting 17ish MPGs in your 4R. I have never gotten less than 20 in 4000 miles. Most tanks end up being closer to 21 mpg and thats daily mixed driving...regulary get 24+ mpg on all interstate trips.:.and I have the Hybrid Nitto ATs tires. What pressure are your tires inflated to?
