I have the Milwaukee M18 16” saw and can cut up a whole tree on one 12ah battery. They just came out with a m18 14” top handle that would be perfect for the trail.
I recently met an architect that told me that Milwaukee was the best brand for light battery operated tools. Given that I have no good way of choosing and he's spent a career working directly with builders I would go with Milwaukee if I hadn't already bought Ryobi tools (which I've been fully satisfied with so far).

I'm also a fan of Stihl, especially for nasty 2 stroke tools. :)

@Archer I did get one of those "chain saws" you linked to and tested it a bit ago on about a 4" branch. My test subject was loose, so made it harder, but you are right--it actually works quite well! And it is *very* compact. Thanks again!
