I’ve been thinking about that too. I’ve decided to try the cross bars + deck/platform first. I just don’t feel great about digging in to the sheet metal, sealing, etc. I am sure I can do it… I just want to experiment with it a bit first.

I ordered the cross bars last night ($260 total vs $400 msrp). For the deck/platform I am going to try the “Kuat Dek”. I can’t seem to find anything less wide (sub 47”).
@watchbuzz , I'm also on the fence. I already have the oem black rails and crossbars.
I would like to utilize what already came with the Runner.

Does the deck/platform attach directly to the oem crossbars with adapters? If so, can you provide me with the link.

Unless I'm on the wrong site, I only see it for the 5th Gen. please advise. Thanks

enjoy the ride!

The Kuat Dek clamps on to the factory cross bars. Two bolts per clamp. The dimensions are 47x60. Which would make it about 1-1.5 wider that the raised rails on either side. I was hoping to find something flush if not slightly narrower, ideally 43” wide.

Thanks for the information. I don't see it for the 6th gen.
Do you have the link to the one you are referring too?

My latest mod - ARB roof rack (like on Trailhunter). Very easy install. Hardest part was removing original roof rails
@Gordon Schmidt

OP - Just picked up this same rack, bought it during the Black Friday 25% off special. Here’s my glory pic hauling that box….not heavy, just large:
2025 4runner 6th gen ARB / Trailhunter Roof Rack Install -- Part number PT989-89251 IMG_5850

Two ratchet straps held it in place for the drive home. As somebody else asked, yes the rack is already assembled.

So I’m at Step #1, removing the end covers on the factory rails. How exactly did you remove the end caps? The instructions say to insert a trim tool and push toward the rear (for the rear caps) but they’re tight and I don’t want to break them.

Question #2 - Did you use silicone and/or blue loctite on the new bolts? Instructions don’t say to. I talked to an upfitter specialist at the dealer and he said he wouldn’t, that as long as the seals on the bottom of the stanchions are intact, and the bolts are torqued down correctly, it should be fine.

Any guidance would be helpful!

I wrote ARB on the silicone topic, here was their response:

“generally there is no issue with using the gasket, though if you are concerned, it never hurts to apply some silicone to the mounting points.”
