The OEM small PPF installed behind the rear passenger doors and in front of the rear fenders on my vehicle has air bubbles behind it. It is pretty noticeable and looks like a poor application. I brought it to a dealer for replacement and they told me "it is what it is", they won't replace it, and will happen because of the textured paint on the lower rockers.

Anyone else seeing this in their PPF?

I don’t think mine has any ppf. Where exactly? Or maybe it’s only on the wide-tracked models (pro/trail)?

It is a triangle shaped piece on the bottom rear corners or the rear passenger doors.

Take it back to the Dealership and have them redo it. Mine was redone in a different area bc some how dirt was under it.

Mine is like this. I haven’t worried too much about it, but my guess is it’s going to be impossible to put PPF on the heavily orange peel textured paint areas and have it adhere without some air gaps.

My film was also peeling off and had dirt under it. Initially, the dealership said, "that must have been a dealer installed accessory, its not standard". So, I walked the service manager out to the lot and found another 4R with the PPF on the lower rear. He agreed to order new and replace it, which that did a few weeks later.

What was interesting is that not all of the 2025 4Runners on the lot had the film. It was definitely not listed as a port accessory and not a dealer add. Its an odd shape and I suspect it may falter again but for now, it looks much better.

There goes my theory that it was pro/trail only. Very interesting!

Yea, that is thought too. I also fear the dealer would do a worse job then the factory at applying the PPF.

I get but also don't get the heavier-duty-paint-plus-PPF solution. Yes, PPF will help, but it also looks like gahbige. I don't know why Toyota didn't keep the heavier-duty paint off that area if they were going to apply PPF.

Well, I am on record with a dealer about it now so when it gets worse I have some background for a replacement.
