4Runner keeps beeping - what does it mean? Truck turned off, doors open.

This happened several times the last week or so, and I've never heard it until now. It happens when the truck is off. I thought maybe it was just telling me that I had the key in the truck but not sure...

is the beeping coming from inside the cabin or outside?

outside means you have the rear window down (even slightly and it will beep, trust me i know from our 23 tundra when i roll the rear window down)

also if you have your lights in parking mode or have the fogs on during parking mode, outside beeping until you open the door to kill the lights.

Inside the cabin. Interesting re windows... I will double check when it happens again but I just made sure that all windows were up. Could be the fogs... thanks for the reply!

but 1 caveat, that beeping is one i have never heard from a toyota before. its a new sound that may have been added to the 6th gen that never existed before.

That happens to me if I walk away from the vehicle without the doors locked and windows rolled up.

can't be fogs or lights it's all automagic off, no need to warn

was it an extra key left behind ?

This is still happening WITHOUT a second key anywhere near the vehicle. So fkn annoying. Going to bring it up next time its in for service, but I'm sure they won't be able to replicate it.

have you tried turning off rear seat reminder? (this one is a major pita since the logic on it is wonky from my pov)

those are the only other things beside key warning beeps and window open beeps.

I do, but fairly certain its been closed when this happens. I rarely open it... I will triple check next time...

check the rear seat reminder that is also a matter of contention

the logic on the rear seat reminder is crappy at best. if you open a rear door and dont do a corresponding door opening, it will beep.

they really should have put a pressure sensor on the seat pad than using the door open/close sequence.


sometimes i put something in via the door and take it out with me when i exit the drivers seat, or vice versa, take it with me (hoodie) and take it off and take it out via the back seat.

Took my truck in for the 10k service yesterday and asked the service guy about the sound and showed him a video. He said its the dashcam. Means memory is full or a few other things... Considering this happened at the base of a bunch of rough trails in Silverton CO the first time, maybe the off-road bumps triggered the recording and filled up the card.... Will investigate and report back.
