2015 4Runner economics and jet skis

So I was at the lake with my 2015 4 runner trail and pulling my boat trailer out of the water when an out of control jet ski went full throttle hit the beach lauched in the air and hit the back of my 4 runner. No one hurt thankfully. So I decided to keep the jet ski owners $8900 insurance check and sell the damaged 4 runner to Carvana. I found the orignal bill of sale, the original purchase price was $22,400 with 19000 mi bought in 2017. In 2025 Carvana paid me $17600 the 4 runner had 93000 mi on it. Other than the jet ski damage it was worn but in good shape. So I bought it for $22,400 in 2017 used, sold it with damages and collected a total of $26,500 for a damged 4 runner in 2025. Go figure!

Because of my bad/good fortune I comforted myself by buying a 2025 TRD Sport Premium gas only. Arriving in 2 weeks. My wife is very suspicious about this story.

Yes that blew my mind. I was very honest answering the questions in their questionaire. I put 8.9k as an estimate for repairs which was from an appraiser. The carvana dude who picked it up was surprised what they offered. He said they usually low ball damaged vehicles. My son had a similar experience with a jeep that had alot of problems. They gave him top dollar.

Glad no one was hurt, had a similar insurance experience where I had a 2021 Promaster work van totaled. First time I ever made out dealing with an insurance company. Paid top dollar for replacement 2025 Promaster plus extra for time off and medical. Worked out beautifully.
