Has anyone had any success fitting 16" wheels on their 4runner? Currently have 16x8 et0 Enkei RPT1s on my Tacoma and was considering swapping them onto the 4runner when it arrives if they'd clear.

lol really?

since you want a 16, i imagine you need to be the first because i think you are the first person ever to even think of putting a 16 on a 4R in the last 15 yrs.

toyota moved away from 16 back in 2009 when the 5th gen came out.

I mean if a priority at the end of the day is a larger tire for off-road, I see no reason as to why 16" is that absurd? I have no issue ordering 17" wheels, but I do like the wheels I have on my Tacoma and the lead-time for 17" TE37s is a bit long at the moment.

Since 5th gen 4Runners have front brakes too big to fit 16s.

Lower trim 4G Tacomas still have smaller brakes than 4Runners, and even they start at 17s these days. That should be pretty telling in itself.

There are also some things that need to be done to accommodate the changes in hub bore if you wanna use last gen wheels (OEM at least). But I'm not sure what exactly is needed, if it's just a hub adapter etc.

1. there is a reason why the oem size is 17in or higher, most of the time its the brakes clearing the wheel (4th gen had 16 but the brakes were way smaller
2. 5th gen hub is 106, 6th gen is 95

4th gen had 2 rotor sizes (but the hardware hanging off of it was smaller so it allowed 16in wheels)
  • 13WH: 338mm (13.3 inches) - Typically found on V8 models.
  • 13WL/13WG: 319mm (12.6 inches) - Found on most other models.

5th gen had 2 rotor sizes (but the hardware hanging off of it was bigger so it required 17in wheels)
  • Front Rotors:
    • 338mm (13.3"): Found on SR5 and Limited trims.
    • 319mm (12.56"): Found on the base model.
  • Rear Rotors:
    • 312mm: All trims have the same 312mm rear rotors.

they also found out that the 17in rim on the 6th gen was causing issues with mud/dirt caking on the smaller 17in rims and hitting the brake hardware.

there was a TSB on 17in rims in certain trims

No 16s will not clear the brakes. I tried putting 16inch TRD pro wheels from the 3rd gen tacoma onto a 2024 tacoma and they would not fit.
