There aren't many options for OEM crossbars and quick release awnings. After spending more time than I care to admit, I think I found the solution that works for me!

Other folks have used U bolts, but I wanted a slightly more elegant solution. Here me out (and judge me, if needed)!

So the crossbars have aluminum t-slots. Probably the weakest point and why the other person used U-bolts to wrap around the entire bar. I can't find any strength number for t-bolts per inch or anything like that. Anyway, here's what I'm gonna do (hopefully).
  1. Remove plastic covers from rails. The purpose is to allow me to have a flat surface going into the t-slots. I don't think these serve any purpose other than looks.
  2. Add 2 x awning bracket that is 13 1/4" long. 7" will remain on t-slot, and the other 6 inches will sit past the rails so they are free and clear from obstruction. 4 t-bolts per first 7" of the bracket. Face the 90 degree angle downward.
  3. Install the Front Runner Slimsport Side Mount Accessory Bracket on the last middle slot closest to the outside (I may have to drill a hole) This is purpose built for the quick release.
  4. Attach Front Runner Quick Release Awning Mount Kit, item 2 to the slimsport in step 3. See this PDF for item 2.
  5. Attach Awning to quick release. Done! The awning weighs 29.8 lbs for the 2.5M and 27.6lbs for the 2M.
Please take a look and let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Quick Release drawings. Item 2 is what I connect to the Slimsport:

Finally, the awning quick release bracket on the awning side. For this last picture, thawning side is the left and the quick release is on the right. That bracket you see on the right, I won't use:

Or I could make my own bracket? Like this, all flat, but 6 t-bolts instead of 4???
