Just so I can recreate what you did during your test...
• What level did you have your bass EQ set at?
• Where was your fader control set at?
• What volume level were you playing the track?
I have/had all fader, balance, treble, bass, etc. at zero/middle/center. Played the Apple Music (settings at high-quality, lossless) subwoofer test track via Apple CarPlay with volume set at a moderate listening level.

Again, here's the Apple Music subwoofer test track I used:

https://music.apple.com/us/album/subwoofer-test-single/1615220988

Again, while playing, opened the back hatch and stuck my head into the middle of the cargo area near the floor and there's a good amount of low bass that I can feel and hear. The subwoofer and JBL system is sounding good.

I played SVS Subwoofer Test Tracks on Spotify, bass setting 1/2 max, fader 1/2 back, and my ORP subwoofer does work.

would like the front and rear speakers to be more equal though.

Just tested, Volume 30, tested with treble, mid, and bass set to zero Center/middle position

Then tested Volume 45 with my settings to my usual likings.

Inside drivers seat position and standing behind with hatch open.

All tested Great.

Strongly recommend testing standing behind with hatch open. Clearly hear the bass

I used both links I posted above.

If your still not getting none to little bass at rear, I'd suggest taking the first link to the dealership and demonstrating.

Thank you. I'll be trying this track later also. Please post the volume level and EQ settings that you're using to test the system with so I can recreate the same in my system.
I already did. Everything on mine is working perfect.

Unfortunately I've not been able to visit a dealership yet & sample the same audio system in an unsold '25 4Runner. Most dealerships are closed near me on Sundays but I plan to visit on Monday or Tuesday this week to compare.

I did spend some time evaluating mine further using the suggestions and bass tracks that others here have posted. It has been helpful & shed additional light on what I still currently believe is a problem with my system. If I simply assume that the system is working properly & as it was designed to then I'm disappointed with what Toyota & JBL calls a stock “premium” audio system.

Using the bass tracks & playing with the EQ settings, I do in fact hear a range of bass frequencies from my rear door speakers & the subwoofer. The problem is that it's pretty anemic & the volume of these speakers is barely half of what the front speakers are. For those familar with amplifiers, it's as if the “gain” to the rear speakers is turned down much lower than the “gain” for the front speakers are. I'm not sure if the amplifier under the seat even has front & rear gain settings but at the time I didn't want to start digging under the driver's seat where it's apparently covered with carpet.

The front speakers perform adequate enough for what I'd expect a stock, branded “premium” sound system to perform like. The rear speakers do not perform as such but I suspect that's because for some reason less gain is being given to them. They don't distort, crackle & certainly don't bottom out at volume level 32 (about halfway) but in my opinion they need to be much louder to equal the front speakers which perform significantly louder at the same volume level. It does seem that there is a low pass and high pass filter set up being used for the rear speakers. The low frequency bass in the rear doors is pretty non-existent but play midbass frequencies & higher just at a lower volume than the front speakers. The low frequency bass in the subwoofer is there & fades out at the midbass frequencies as a subwoofer should but again it plays at a lower volume that the front speakers do. At volume level 32 I'm definitely not actually feeling any bass from the rear speakers & I don't yet want to crank up the volume due to the speakers not yet being fully broken in & for fear of damaging the system which might create a warranty issue.

What I've done is simply move the fader setting to the rear 2 or 3 notches to falsely equal out the front & rear speakers but I shouldn't have to do this in my opinion. Doing so also does not increase the actual volume of the rear speakers but simply reduces the volume of the front speakers. I can't understand why Toyota & JBL failed to include a dedicated subwoofer level setting within the infotainment settings which in my opinion should be standard anytime a dedicated subwoofer is present.

As of right now, I feel that the rear speaker volumes are ridiculously low for some reason & something that should be propely addressed by Toyota so that they perform at an equal volume as the front speakers do while the fader setting is at the default total center. That's just how I feel about my particular system & I highly doubt I'm the only one with this feeling. The “premium” system should've been properly tuned for the interior of the vehicle with the settings at default.

The JBL system in my ORP sounds great and sounds well tuned and designed for the interior.

Just from my experience, the sound I get in my premium is about average from a dealers premium system.

My bronco is the same way and I see the same thing in the bronco forums.

Sadly, I don’t think premium really means PREMIUM. It’s just a marketing term that means “upgraded from base system.

I agree with OP that you shouldn’t have to immediately upgrade a system called premium, but there are a couple of relatively easy upgrade options for the JBL system. There is an amp and sub control knob system that’s available for a few hundred$$ and can be installed in less than an hour.
