I currently drive a Subaru Ascent and I'm looking to move to a 4Runner. I have a 3rd row in my current vehicle that I rarely use but its nice to have in case my kids have a friend along or if I'm hauling nieces/nephews around (I'm aware the 3rd row in the new 4runner is tiny and shouldn't really be used often). Apparently this is a super tough vehicle to find so I'm hoping to get some info from the community here. I'd love to just peek at the interior of a Limited that includes the 3rd row but there aren't any within a few hundred miles of me.

If you get the 3rd row option does that eat into the 2nd row leg room at all? Or is the 2nd row legroom the same whether you have the 3rd row or now?

its the same whether you have 3rd or not. the tumble seats are universal between all trims.

the only difference is the load floor whether you have a 3rd row or not on the non hybrid.

the load floor on the non 3rd row non hybrid is more flat and usable vs the hybrid load floor.

This is great news, thanks! Now I can have my kids test the legroom out in one locally and not have to wonder about that added factor. Appreciate the help. Hopefully I'll be joining the ranks soon.

like you I used my 3rd row in my old Highlander about twice a year, so I opted to do 2 row. I wanted max cargo space for camping trips etc so I opted not for the 3rd row due to the space those seats take up when folded.

Do you ever miss that 3rd row? I have 2 kids so I can get away with just one back bench for most of my driving but their friends or other family hop in the car evvvvvery once in a while and I like having that flexibility.

My kids are 11 and 13 so still room in the middle seat for one friend. I personally have not had a situation yet where the world ended because we didn't have that extra row. Figured the 1 time a year we invite more friends to go bowling for a birthday the wife and I can take 2 cars. Back 30 years ago it was rare having a 3rd row, I think its FOMO that scares alot of buyers into something bigger than they need.

In the 22 years we owned our 2003 Sequoia i can count on one hand the number of times we used the third seat. So far this year we made one 300 mile round trip in our new Off Rd Premium with two adult grandkids seated in the second row and the backed stuffed with luggage for a seven day cruise. We are not going to miss the 3rd row.

sr5 3rd row, great for kids under 5 but very small compared to other 3rd row suvs. less leg room than the rear seats in my 90's jeeps for reference. im 5'4 at my knees are bent if i ever sit back there. love my 4runner either way even if i did have to pay the stealership $5k markup lol.

if you really need a 3rd row vehicle go with a grand highlander (or sienna if you want to go mini-van route). it has the best 3rd row in any toyota, better than the sequoia old or new.

I think I'll just be patient and what for a 4Runner with the 3rd row to show up in my area. I don't NEED it, its just a nice to have. Part of me thinks I should get the Grand Highlander but its... so boring compared to the 4runner

They are "boring" I almost got one, It was big inside like a Seqoia, cost about 10k less than the 4 runner but couldn't take on the the trails we were hoping to explore.

3rd row guy here. 2 kids as well. Our 3rd row is rarely used, but when you need it, man it feels so good to have that option.

I bought mine in transit with whatever the dealer loaded on.I wasn't happy with 3rd row but at the time there were not many available and I figured I wouldn't use it anyway.
Never gave any thought to how much leg room is sacrificed in row two.
It is terrible. About 5 inches less than two row seating. No way you could cram a couple adults in row two for any extended trip.

doesnt matter if you have the 3rd row or not, the 2nd row is a fixed position no matter the trim
