Another way to get the trim you want

So we all know you can’t order what you want. You have to settle for what local dealers have. And “in the old days” you could find a trim in another state and do a dealer swap. But NO dealers are doing swaps lately.
So, no luck for me on anything 4 state local to MN on what I wanted.
So I searched nationwide for what I wanted. Found it in Corpus Christi TX.
I put 2k down to hold it. Bought a 165$ one way plane ticket and one night in a hotel. Drove it home.
Got what I wanted.
So, just an outside the box idea. Worked for me.

I'm waiting until they have a selection on the lots, then I'll cast a wide net on my chosen vehicle anyway.

I'm also thinking that this summer and fall are going to kick dealers right square in the teeth, and I'll be ready to hop in and get a deal. Who knows though...I'm frequently wrong about things LOL

I did the exact same thing after waiting months. I was just lucky enough to have found a dealer 48 miles away with the build I wanted. The 3 local dealerships I was working with, 2 being ones I had a deposit with, said there isn’t the one the one I looking for in the entire region and that the mine should be in “a week or two”

I did the same in 2019 to get My Tacoma from Knoxville Tennessee since my local Toyota dealership was useless.

We are dealer in Ohio and just located a New Toyota from a dealer in Hollywood, CA. It is set to be built in 2 weeks. Will be rerouted to us instead. We 100% do trade to get our customers what they want...

What are you talking about? I didn’t have to settle for what my dealership had. I simply went out of state and I was able to get Mudbath..

I think that just depends on the dealer? I was able to place an order for the trim I wanted and the color I wanted, I just have to wait for it. They said it might take a couple months but they didn't tell me I can't choose what I wanted. If you don't want to wait then yea, you definitely need to shop around to find a dealer that has the one you want available. At this point I'd expect I am getting a 26 model year vehicle just with what the ETAs are. Hopefully pricing doesn't change too much between the model years.

Did you have to pay sales tax since Texas has it ?.

technically you can order what you want, but its up to the dealer to actually input an allocation reserve request order into dealerdaily. once you put one in with the options you want, you have to wait until toyota actually builds that configuration you inputted.

in my case i put one in dec-2024 and it finally got picked up early last week and was built on 8-22-2025 (friday)

i dont have good pics of the dealerdaily screen for allocation reserve request. i only have my old screenshots from when i initially picked my FIO and PIO options. i have completely changed it since then. i have add more PIO options which has jacked the invoice price from around 60,294 to 63,114
