Are you sure it is smoke? What color is it? What do you mean by "slowing down?" If you were driving on the highway and you let off the gas for a few seconds and then slowly got back on the gas, any oil smoke, or blow-by, would be indicative of worn piston rings, but that seems like a ridiculous diagnosis for an engine that can be, at most, 4 months old.

This is typically a sign of oil leaking into the turbo. Not specific to 4Runners but any vehicle equipped with a turbocharger can have this happen. Usual suspects are turbo internal seals failing. Other potential causes can be coolant leaks and blown head gasket.

Get it into a dealers service Dept ASAP. Sounds like Coolant in the combustion gasses to me. Head gasket? Turbo seals both previously mentioned. I thought if oil was getting in it would not be a white smoke but my knowledge is kinda dated.

Talked to the dealership to about my 4Runner and they probably just water it the exhaust burning off from being washed and nothing to be concerned about but to keep a eye on it

No the dealership did before I picked it up brand new just picked it up only had 23km on

It should be very easy to differentiate between steam and smoke. Was this a onetime thing or is it ongoing? Most cars will show a little water out the exhaust on start-up, as condensation is usually present on engine start up.

Oil smoke will be blue and will smell like burning oil, coolant in the exhaust will smell sweet and there will be A LOT of white smoke.

I think you are worrying about nothing. Regardless, if it gets worse, your car is under warranty.

most likely water being converted to steam.

if the smoke is a hazy or off white its steam. if its bright white its smoke.

usually it will disappear after 5-10 mins of driving. happens after sitting over night predominately due to condensation over night.

also this more common on norhtern tier states than southern states, especially during the winter months.

With a hybrid, is it possible the gas engine might not even start until you've driven some distance? Or does the gas engine always start when you push the start button?

On the white smoke, did it evaporate within a few seconds or did it linger in the air and was thick white smoke?

Anyway, check the oil dipstick to make sure the oil is clear to light honey color, and check the coolant to be sure it's transparent pink. If there's any sign of other colors or foaming or not transparent, could be a problem. But I presume the dealer checked these.
