90 day pause on all tariffs except china

Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately. At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable.

Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately.

Not so fast. This is apparently just the reciprocal tariffs that are paused. The auto tariffs remain:
" He did, however, keep the 10% baseline duties that went into effect last weekend for all countries, although that does not apply to Mexico or Canada, which still face a separate set of duties related to fentanyl. Separate industry-specific tariffs on steel, aluminum, autos remain unchanged. "

GMA this morning reported that the tariffs are going to cost Toyota 9.5 billion in profits; I doubt that Toyota is going to absorb that loss without passing something on to consumers.

100%. It may be cheaper for them to move Taco production back to Japan from Mexico, but moving production lines isn't a small effort.

I suspect they ate them until they had certainty so they didn't ping/pong prices...and now they do. Watch for a lot of price hikes on a lot of imported stuff over the next few months.

They can't eat 10bil a year in profits for long. They sell around 10mil cars a year worldwide. Prices will go up.

Prices are going up for American "made" cars too since most of the parts come from other countries and just assembled here. Every US OEM has Tier 1 suppliers in Mexico and Canada. GM and Ford aren't eating billions in profit either.

Yep, everything is going up. We the people here inAmerica are paying the tariffs, companies are in for profit. It seems that we still have not learned the lessons from the 30's.

Ordered my 4Runner 6 months ago and still nothing coming in at this point. I signed a contract with msrp price and will gladly pay a reasonable inflation increase but refuse to pay an additional ludicrous Trump tax if it is significant.

The prices of Toyotas and every vehicle have been going up since Covid (last 5 years)...Stronger incentives are coming for manufacturers so in the long run, overall cost of ownership will go down relative to where prices are as of today, and have been over the past 5 years.

Plus, the EV mandate has been killed, which was plaguing all manufacturers, and set to affect everyone starting this Fall. Therefore, the profit losses of all those EV vehicles that manufacturers were forced to sell, and most people didn't want, will no longer have to be offset by higher prices on all other vehicles. Therefore, you will see the prices of vehicles go down in the form of cash on hood, lower interest rates and other incentives...Couple that with certain regulations being loosened, many of you will be pleasantly surprised.

Just look at GM, Ford, Stellantis, Porsche, VW Group, etc. Prices of cars are dropping because of aggressive incentives by the OEMs. Only models that go up are the exclusive ones that are low in supply and high in demand (i.e. 911s, TRD Pros, Raptors, and various higher trims easily afforded by folks with money). Everything else is dropping and will continue to stay like that.

Just my humble opinion...

I just worry the dealership will try and raise the price anyway due to this on their website:

”Due to current fluctuating market conditions, the advertised prices of all IN TRANSIT vehicles are subject to change. We will not know the final price of these vehicles until they arrive at our dealership. The quoted MSRP or SRP and any applicable pricing may be adjusted to reflect current rates at the time of purchase.”

Once they leave the port, the price will be set (because that’s when the tariff is charged), but between docking and leaving customs, yep, the price could go up. My guess is that Toyota will just wait and raise the 2026 prices, since those are due pretty soon, and might even be reducing production of the 2025’s to avoid eating tariffs on them (which would explain some of the stock shortages).
