There are a lot more roof racks available now than when I looked back in May. Many of them are having black friday sales.

In case you are looking too, here's a catalog of what full length racks are available, in table form. Let me know of any errors or omissions, since I threw this together pretty quickly and didn't spend a lot of time on each website. There might be other full-length racks I missed.

If you have done a DIY install on any of these, you comments on the ease or difficulty of the installation process would be appreciated.

Yeah thanks for that info. I've been toying with the rack idea. I have a pair of Thule cross bars and I will probably go with a basket style clamp on basket. The stuff that I would probably Haul on a road trip adventure would be just the essentials, mostly fuel, propane stuff like that. No need for a full length rack. Then it's a quick uninstall and I can hang the basket in the garage. Just my two cents

any recommendations on which one? looking at the Rago Fabrication Crossmembers only , or the factory ARB roof rack , want an OEM + look. Costco princess/road trip vehicle might see light offroad maybe once a year

If you're interested in anything by Rago fabrication, I have the molle panels for the OEM roof rails I am looking to sell. DM me if you're interested.

I went with the Westcott Lo Pro Rack mostly on because it was the lowest profile (Fits in the garage) and their reputation.
The build and install process was SUPER SIMPLE and SUPER CLEAN! all the bolts and holes lined up perfectly! It only weighs 42lbs so it was easy to fit on the roof as well.
I did PPF my entire roof before the install to help with my OCD ;)
Would highly recommend even if you don't plan on putting a RTT up top. It just make loading the roof easier and fits in the garage with a 3" lift and 35s
Only downside was they changed $200 for shipping when I bought it a couple months ago but it was off set with a generous Military Discount
Hope this helps

Anyone have real world experience with how your full roof rack affects your mileage?

I'm buying one anyway but just want to see what the hit is gonna be. Thanks.

I did a search on that; you'll find more info via a general search. There aren't too many instrumented tests under controlled conditions. That's the only way to get meaningful with/without numbers where the rack is the only variable. So I would take everything with a grain of salt.

There are threads on other 4runner forums (more info on older models of course), but most SUVs aren't very aerodynamic to start with so you could look at other SUV claims as well.

Having said all that, I'd summarize what I found like this (presuming you mean with the rack empty; all bets are off if the rack is loaded since the size, weight, and shape of whatever you're carrying will impact it to varying degrees).

For city stop and go, compared to no roof rack or cross bars, 1-2 mpg loss for city driving seems to be about the average, but a few outliers report 3 or 4 lost, or even negligible loss of mpg.

For highway driving and empty rack, 2-4 mpg loss seems to be the average range. But you will find people who say they only get 1 mpg worse highway mpg, and as much as 5 or 6 mpg worse.

And of course, different rack designs and rack configurations (number of cross bars or flat panels; light bars) will give different results too. It's probably proportional to how much wind noise you hear with and without the rack. If you hear an obvious amount of additional wind noise, you'll probably be on the higher end of the ranges.

One thing to remember with the WCD lo pro rack, it's not tall enough to clear your roof antenna, antenna sticks up past the rack by about 1/2". Could run into problems with a rtt.
